BREAKING NEWS: BMI OrganBank’s kidney preservation device has received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation, recognizing its great promise to transform kidney transplant care.

Our room temperature machine perfusion (RTMP) platform aims to extend preservation times and improve kidney function assessment, with the goal of expanding access to lifesaving transplants.

A clinical study is planned for early next year.

Delivering gene therapy to the kidneys has long been a challenge due to their complex physiology and natural filtering function. But now, researchers at Duke University, Dr. Aravind Asokan and Dr. Andrew Barbas, have made significant advancements in efficiently delivering genetic material where it’s needed most.

With the support of BMI OrganBank® Lab, our Ex-vivo Pharmacodynamic Research Platform, Duke’s research team tested these new gene delivery methods on isolated pig and primate kidneys. Their findings, now published in Nature Biomedical Engineering, bring us one step closer to breakthrough treatments for kidney disease and better outcomes for patients worldwide.

We’re proud to partner with WFIRM on a groundbreaking mission to make whole eye transplants a reality. Funded by ARPA-H, this project addresses the challenges of whole-eye transplantation, including the need for medical devices that can sustain the viability of donor eyes while they are transported to their intended recipient.

Together, we’re pushing regenerative medicine boundaries to restore sight for the blind.

BMI OrganBank today announced that it has been awarded a $3.5 million Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The funding will support further development of the company's groundbreaking kidney preservation technology with the goal of preparing it for clinical trials and FDA approval.
