🐄 Another great week on the frontier with our Assisted Living residents!

This week’s "Back to the Frontier" episode was all about livestock auctions — and our residents got in on the action with their very own “livestock trade.” Each resident drew a number from a hat to claim their mystery stuffed animal, then had the chance to barter and trade with neighbors.

Lots of laughs, plenty of trading, and a whole herd of fun! 🤠🐑🐴

Residents enjoyed a fascinating afternoon with Bo Taylor, Cultural Archivist for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, as he shared stories, songs, and insights from his work preserving the Cherokee language and traditions.

Bo brought Cherokee culture to life through music, dance, and storytelling — even getting everyone on their feet to join in a lively Friendship Dance!

This special program was hosted by the Salemtowne Inclusion Group (SIG) with support from Dr. Margaret Bender, Professor of Anthropology at Wake Forest University, who provided the introduction.

🎤 The Salemtowne Debate Society is back in action!

After weeks of lively prep and coaching from the Wake Forest University Debate Team, residents took the stage for a thought-provoking debate on whether the Second Amendment should be repealed.

Salemtowne is proud to be among the first retirement communities in the nation with a resident-led debate society — and we’re just getting started! Next up: our first inter-community debate this fall against Abbotswood at Irving Park! 👏

The Salemtowne community kicked up its boots this weekend for an evening of music, dancing, and fellowship! 🎶

With lively tunes from Smooth Bourbon, a bourbon tasting, and light refreshments, it was a night full of good music, great company, and fall fun! 🍂💃

🤠 Our Assisted Living residents are heading back to the frontier!

They kicked off an 8-week adventure exploring what life was like on the frontier. Each week, they’ll watch an episode of "Back to the Frontier" on HBO Max and take part in a hands-on activity to bring history to life.

To kick things off, residents signed their own land deeds and posed for frontier-style photos. It was the perfect start to this journey back in time! 📜📸
