Respect the Final Journey
When you see a hearse on the road, remember it is not just another vehicle in traffic.
That car is carrying someone on their very last journey, and behind it are the family members and close friends who loved them most.
Those cars following closely aren’t just traffic.
They’re sons, daughters, partners, parents, grandchildren, neighbors and best friends.
Every one of them is grieving, carrying heavy hearts, and trying to hold themselves together while they drive in procession behind their loved one.
Imagine what it must feel like in those cars, tears in their eyes, hands trembling on the wheel, silence broken only by quiet sobs.
The last thing they need is someone cutting in, rushing past, or sounding a horn because they’re in a hurry.
It costs nothing to slow down, keep your distance, and show a little patience.
That small act of respect means everything to the people in mourning.
We never know when it will be our family in that procession, wishing for the same kindness from strangers on the road.
In fact, In Florida, it's illegal and disrespectful to interrupt or interfere with a funeral procession;
you must not drive through it or cut it off, and can face fines for doing so, as the law requires you to wait for the entire cortege to pass, showing respect for the grieving family.
Respect the hearse.
Respect the procession.
Respect the final journey.
