đź’™ New Year, New Awareness đź’™

As we step into January, it’s a powerful time to check in on how you’re really feeling after birth.
Not every postpartum mood change is the same, and knowing the difference can help you get the right support:

🔹 Baby Blues: Temporary mood swings, tearfulness, irritability; usually resolve within 2 weeks
🔹 Postpartum Depression (PPD): Persistent sadness, low energy, hopelessness, loss of interest; may last months without treatment
🔹 Postpartum Anxiety (PPA): Excessive worry, racing thoughts, panic; can interfere with daily life

✨ Early recognition leads to earlier support and recovery.

And remember, perinatal mental health conditions can also include OCD, Bipolar Mood Disorders, PTSD, and Psychosis.

đź’™ You are not alone, and help is available.

If you need support now:
đź”· Call or text the Postpartum Support International HelpLine at 800-944-4773 (no diagnosis needed)
đź”· Call or text the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline at 1-833-852-6262
đź”· In a crisis, call or text 988
đź”· Download the Connect by PSI app
đź”· Visit Postpartum.net for programs and resources

✨ A new year can be the beginning of feeling better.

Brad Edwards turned personal tragedy into action by founding Dads to Doulas, a free program educating Black fathers on childbirth and infant care. Born after the loss of his twin sons in 2017, the program equips dads with doula-level training to support partners, recognize complications, and advocate during pregnancy and delivery. Its goal is to reduce Black maternal and infant mortality while empowering fathers to transform the birthing experience. 👶🏾

God Cares About Your Struggles

You don’t have to pretend everything is okay. God welcomes your honesty and is close to the brokenhearted. Mental health challenges are not a lack of faith—they are a place for God’s compassion to meet your need.

Scripture:
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18

May is Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18

This May, we bring awareness to the emotional and mental struggles many mothers face during pregnancy and postpartum—a sacred season that can also be marked by silent suffering.

What is Maternal Mental Health?
Maternal mental health includes a mother’s emotional, psychological, and spiritual well-being during pregnancy and after childbirth. Conditions such as postpartum depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, and postpartum psychosis can affect not only the mother, but also her baby, her relationships, and her ability to thrive.

The Facts:
• 1 in 5 mothers experience a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder (PMAD).
• Su***de is a leading cause of maternal death within the first year after giving birth.
• Most mothers go untreated, often due to stigma, shame, or lack of support.

As a faith community, we are called to be a place of refuge and compassion.
Let us break the silence and remind every mother:
You are not alone. You are not to blame. With help—and with God—you will be well.

This month, let’s pray, speak up, and support the mental wellness of all mothers in our midst.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

This May, we recognize Mental Health Awareness Month as a sacred opportunity to uplift, support, and care for the emotional and spiritual well-being of our communities. As people of faith, we are called to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2), and that includes being present for those facing mental health challenges.

Mental health is not a weakness, a lack of faith, or something to be ashamed of—it is part of our whole health, and caring for our minds is just as important as caring for our bodies and spirits. Seeking support, counseling, or community care can be a faithful act of stewardship over the life God has given us.

Throughout this month, we’ll be sharing Scripture, encouragement, and resources to help reduce stigma and promote healing. Let us come together in prayer, love, and compassion—reminding each other that healing is holy, and no one walks alone.

May we be a light for those in darkness and a refuge for those in need.
