As we prepare to celebrate this year’s Pride Month, it’s particularly important to examine the current mental health needs of the LGBTQ+ community.
The celebration of “Pride” was born out of the necessity to be seen, heard, and understood in the face of prejudice.
Today, the LGBTQ+ population continues to gain support as a collective group, this progress fails to find its way into the lives of far too many of its individual members.
And continued prejudice can translate to very real consequences, from feelings of isolation, to a lack of safe places to seek help, which is one reason the instance of substance use disorders is higher within the LGBTQ+ population.
