Communication often starts with motivation. đź’¬

In ABA, we call requesting something you want a mand — and it’s one of the most important communication skills a child can learn.

When children learn that asking leads to getting their needs met, communication becomes powerful and meaningful.

You can encourage manding at home by:
✨ Creating motivation
✨ Prompting the request
✨ Reinforcing immediately
✨ Gradually fading prompts over time

Even small attempts — a word, sound, sign, or gesture — are big steps toward independence. 💙

This means we look at actions we can clearly see and track — like asking for help, following directions, or engaging in play — rather than things that are hard to measure.

Why does this matter? Because when behavior is observable and measurable, we can track progress, make informed decisions, and celebrate meaningful growth along the way. đź’™
