I had bloodwork done back in July. I wasn’t shocked to learn I have elevated cholesterol numbers; it is on par with my family history. But instead of just accepting that I’m in the ‘high normal range’, I asked for an additional test. Apo-B gives a more reliable understanding of atherosclerosis (overall hardening of the arteries) which offers a more complete understanding of my body’s circulation.

Many of you know that I am a pescatarian (I consume seafood and vegetables) and prior to this change I was a vegetarian for 5+ years. So why would my cholesterol and Apo-B scores be high?

Two things are happening for me … 1) I don’t process glucose efficiently. Although my numbers are in the normal range, I can tell my body struggles based on how I feel after consuming simple carbs and refined sugar. I feel sluggish, sometimes get a headache, and my body feels bloated and heavy. These are signs of insulin resistivity and inflammation. Insulin resistivity is the number one cause for hardening arteries.

2) I have too much lymph in my body which increases blood pressure and reduces the flow of nutrients, blood, water and waste. Lymph is part of your immune system and works to eradicate foreign invaders and reduce inflammation. I know I’m having a lymph challenge because my joints often hurt, my lower limbs feel heavy, I can feel a little tenderness under my arms and my mid-section is hanging on to more fluid than is normal. My cycle also becomes more painful with breast tenderness, low back pain, cramping and swollen lymph nodes.

We had such a great time last Saturday during the Winter storm! Painting, sipping and creating awesome masterpieces made from layered laser wood. Each piece has about 8-10 layers and the kit comes complete with paint, brushes and glue. These make a great gift or keepsake to remember your time in the mountains.
