Simple yet effective management of digital consumption is a terrific way to reduce stress and get better sleep. For example, we have a 'no electronics 1-hour before bedtime' rule in our home, and phones, laptops, and tablets aren't allowed in the bedroom during sleep.

Did you know there is a photoreceptor called melanopsin that regulates melatonin production that only responds to blue light? "What that means is that the body’s internal clock depends on strong shifts in blue-spectrum light at the bookends of the day: morning and night. High levels of evening blue light, and low levels in the morning, disrupt not just circadian rhythms but also the clock genes implicated in bipolar and other psychiatric disorders." Many countries are implementing policies to protect workers and children from over-exposure to electronic devices and the 'always-on' work environment. If you are old enough, you will remember a time when you came home from work and that was the end of it until the next morning. Not so much anymore.

This chronic over-exposure to devices is a large contributor to burnout, mental health challenges, stress and increased physical health risks. Setting strict guidelines with yourself and your kids on screen time is a how you begin to lower stress and get a good night's sleep. It's time to return to an 8-hour workday without guilt or fear of job loss or retaliation.
