Dental terms in English… translated on the spot 🇩🇪🇨🇭

A small reminder that while language may change, the goal remains the same - helping people understand their health clearly and confidently.

We’re especially grateful for a Team that brings multiple languages and cultures into our practice. It makes care more personal, more comfortable, and more connected for the families we serve.

Interesting fact: German and Swiss engineering are known worldwide for precision—and that same philosophy carries into every one of our surgeries, where systems like reflect an uncompromising standard for biocompatibility, design, and long-term performance 🇩🇪🇨🇭

That same cultural influence can even be felt here in Central Florida through food, music, and community gatherings. Places like Hollerbach’s Willow Tree Cafe offer a glimpse of that tradition - bringing a bit of Germany into our local community 🪴

At first glance, Goodwin Dentistry + Medicine feels familiar. When patients walk inside, however, they quickly realize it is not traditional dentistry. For this week’s Focus Friday, see how Goodwin Dentistry has created a biologic, integrative philosophy that views oral health as inseparable from overall wellness by reading here: https://online.flippingbook.com/view/749535431/20/

Before you think about Braces Read this …

Most parents come in asking about braces - and that makes sense. You see crowding, spacing, or shifting and want to fix it early.

But over time, we’ve learned to pause and ask a different question first:
Why did the teeth develop this way to begin with?

In many children, the answer isn’t just genetics. It’s function.
💨👅🗣️ How they breathe. Where their tongue rests. How their muscles work day to day.

If those patterns aren’t addressed, teeth can be straightened - but the underlying forces that shaped them are still there and continue to influence their health outcomes negatively.

🌱 Myofunctional therapy gives us a way to guide growth, not just correct the result. It’s simple, but it’s powerful—because it works with the body instead of against it.

For some kids, it can change the entire trajectory of their development. 🌳

Some people come to work for a season.
Others help shape the story of a place.

For 29 years, Ruthie has been part of the heartbeat of our Team. She has cared for patients, supported teammates, kept things running smoothly behind the clinical scenes, and brought a steady kindness to every day. The kind of presence that can’t really be replaced - only deeply appreciated.

Many patients will also remember her for the famous handmade costumes she proudly wore during our fall Team costumes each year - always ready to bring a smile, a laugh, and a little extra joy to someone’s day.

This past week we celebrated her retirement, but more than that we celebrated a life of faithful work, camaraderie, and the many lives she’s touched along the way.

Ruthie, thank you for the laughter, the wisdom, the dedication, and the countless moments that made our days brighter.

We pray God richly blesses you in the adventures ahead and in this new season of retirement. 🤍

🎉 ¡Feliz retiro, Ruthie!

Did you know? 🍌⚾ 🥎

Many youth sports carry a real risk of dental injury. In fact, studies have shown that baseball and softball are among the leading causes of dental trauma in children ages 7–12. A fast-moving ball, an unexpected bounce, or a close play at base can all happen in a split second.

🏀 Basketball isn’t far behind. Among teenagers, basketball is one of the most common sports associated with dental injuries—largely because mouthguards are rarely worn.

The good news?
One simple piece of equipment can make a big difference.

A properly fitted mouthguard helps absorb impact, protect teeth, and cushion forces that can travel through the jaw and toward the head.

For young athletes, it is one of the most overlooked pieces of sports equipment.
