Part 1 of How I Batch Cook for the Week: I always start with a meal plan. I like to ask my family for suggestions because figuring out what’s for dinner is exhausting. And if they suggest it, they will eat it usually without complaint. I’ve learned to plan based on what I have on hand. I don’t physically grocery shop and cook on the same day. I will order from Instacart and then cook but I’m not doing the shopping and cooking on the same day. I said what I said. It’s just too much. And yes I’m lining my pans with foil and parchment paper because it makes cleaning up so much easier. Stay tuned for part 2

The year’s 2016 and you’re about to welcome the newest addition and surprise she decides to cone at 36 weeks only you live in North Carolina with no other family. This is your 2nd time breastfeeding and it’s only been about a year since you last nursed your son. Your milk comes in fast and furious and you have a massive over supply that you spend the next 3 months trying to regulate by doing all the things you can find on the internet ( this was way before I became a lactation consultant) only to have nothing work and you end up with mastitis 3x! You learn that your toddler will figure out a way to get the snacks when you’re napped rapped on the couch with his sister. Do you see what he’s standing on?! There’s appt of postpartum hair loss but it grows back. You guys find your groove there are lots of family dates on the weekends. Nights end with both kids in daddy’s arms and mornings with both in our bed and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

6 years ago today I was marketing Milk & Cookies I remember leaving cards at Carters, Panera, Buy Buy Baby and any moms I saw with a little in their arms or bellies. I’d rent out a room at the library and we’d meet there weekly. This was me snapping a picture of myself leaving cards in the nursing room aka dressing room at the Target in Waterford Lakes. 6 years later we are no longer meeting at a library but 2x a month resuming in February 2026.

Yes dear friend you heard that correctly your pediatrician isn’t showing you how to feed your baby. They aren’t observing your baby feeding. So how do you know if you’re truly feeding your baby correctly? Some would assume that bottle feeding is easy, you just put it in their mouths. Here’s some of what I’m looking for when observing a bottle feeding:

*Babies positioning sitting up, laying down
*Does baby open wide for bottle or does care giver just place ni**le in mouth
*How far is the ni**le placed in babies mouth?
*Is baby doing the work or is gravity?
*Does the parent have to move the bottle around to keep baby sucking?
*Is milk leaking from the bottle?
*Is baby gulping or can clicking be heard?
*Is baby swallowing lots or air or working really hard?
*How long does it take baby to finish a bottle?

If you’ve got questions about feeding your baby a bottle, I’ve got answers and am ready to help. Click the link in the bio to get started.

Have you already started receiving all of the mailers to remind you about ? There’s a new one in my mailbox daily. Here’s a tip from an IBCLC: Check the details of the benefit packages they are offering. I know the prices are going up (as they have done yearly) if you’re pregnant or lactating you’ll want to review what lactation coverage you have, providers in-network in your area and if you don’t have anyone in-network you’ll want to know if you have out of network coverage. Anyone remember when co-pays were less than $40 or even $0?
