Life outside the OR đź’ś

This week, I had the privilege of stepping away from surgery to step into something even more sacred—walking alongside my son as he explores his future.

From Georgia Tech to Virginia Tech, every step reminded me that God is ordering his steps just as He ordered mine.

Carson, you are not just choosing a college—you are walking into purpose.

I can’t believe this time is here, but I trust the God who brought you this far will lead you exactly where you’re meant to be.

Whichever door opens, walk through it in faith.

“Are you afraid of choosing the wrong job?”

Most people are.

But the better question is this—
What kind of life are you trying to build?

Because the wrong job isn’t always about the role…
It’s about choosing something that doesn’t align with your life, your values, and your priorities.

Before you decide your next move:
✔️ Define your life
✔️ Accept the tradeoffs
✔️ Choose intentionally

“Does this job support your life… or consume it?”

“How do you set boundaries… without sounding ungrateful?”

This is where most people struggle.

You want to grow.
You want to protect your time.
But you also don’t want to disrespect the people who helped you get here.

One approach: start with gratitude.
Honor what’s been poured into you—then clearly communicate what you need next.

Grateful for the honest and meaningful discussion with the team at HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital.

“How do you set boundaries without sounding ungrateful?”

Most people stay silent…
not because they don’t know what they need—
but because they don’t want to seem ungrateful.

Start with gratitude.
Honor what they gave you.
Then communicate clearly what you need.

A powerful conversation with the team at HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital.

“Don’t confuse endurance with shattering.”

Strength doesn’t always mean pushing through everything. Sometimes it means recognizing when it’s time to set healthy boundaries.

“What do you want your daily rhythm to look like?”

Sometimes the most important question isn’t what job you want—it’s what kind of life you want to wake up to every day.

Appreciate the thoughtful engagement from the team at HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital during this conversation.

This is special moment for me.

One of my patients, Chance Kern, who I have cared for since before he was even born—while he was still in the womb—is now 15 years old and playing basketball for the Orlando Magic Dreamers. Seeing him roll onto the court and play during halftime at the Orlando Magic game was an incredible moment, and I was honored to be there cheering him on.

Watching Chance grow over the years and now seeing him pursue his passion reminds me why supporting young people matters so much. Moments like this show that with dedication, encouragement, and community support, dreams can truly become reality.

The Orlando Magic Dreamers are working hard and have the opportunity to compete at Nationals, and they need community support to get there.

If you would like to help these young athletes continue chasing their dreams, please consider donating to support their journey: https://www.cfldreamplex.com/omd-nationals-2026/

Every bit of support helps these kids move one step closer to their goals—and reminds them that no dream is ever too big.

“Choose a life before you choose your job.”

Balance is something many people chase, but in reality, life is about priorities—and those priorities change. That’s not failure. That’s growth.

Choose what aligns with your values.
Communicate your priorities clearly.
And give yourself permission to adjust them as life evolves.

Grateful to share these reflections with the team at HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital.

“Communicate your priorities to those who matter the most to you.”

When people understand what truly matters to you, it becomes easier to align expectations, relationships, and decisions.
