✅Magnesium is an essential mineral, important for many body and brain functions. Most adults are deficient of this important element, mainly because of stress and sub-optimal diets.

🔎Supplementing with magnesium has been shown to have multiple benefits such as increased memory and attention, Increased focus, lowering of blood pressure, decreased inflammation, and even depression.

This mineral is responsible for more than 300 body functions so a deficiency could result in a wide variety of symptoms from insomnia to arrhythmias.
The FDA suggests taking around 320mg of elemental magnesium. Make sure to always talk to your health provider before taking any magnesium supplements as there are certain medical conditions, like kidney problems, that can increase magnesium build-up and toxicity. Also, there are several drug interactions with magnesium that you should be aware.

Magnesium reduces the effectiveness of numerous medications by decreasing their absorption. Some of these drugs are:

💊Tetracyclines, such as minocycline and doxycycline.

💊 Statins such as rosuvastatin and atorvastatin.

💊 Ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, ofloxacin.

💊 Sotalol.

💊 Gabapentin.

💊 Levothyroxine.

If taking any of these drugs, take magnesium at least 1-2 hours before or after the medication or take the magnesium right before bed (as long as there are 2 hours separation from the above mentioned drugs) for better sleep.

🔎Magnesium Hydroxide, a type of magnesium mainly found in antiacids and some other stomach discomfort products, increases the absorption of some diabetic meds such as glyburide, glipizide and glimepiride. Magnesium supplement can be very beneficial for people with prediabetes and diabetes but always consult your medical provider for the safest form and best times to take it.
