2023 was one of the hardest years of my life, but it taught me the importance of real growth. Now, as we move through 2024, I’m focusing on becoming better—better in my fitness, my musicianship, my singing, and especially my relationships.

One of my joys of doing what I do is the feedback I get from either clients in cycling or the audience with music.

This past weekend was a whirlwind starting with a Mountain Bike ride Friday morning and then a gig at Rí Rá in Mandalay Bay, getting to bed by 2am, getting up at 7am hopping on the Harley and heading to Parker, Arizona for an afternoon gig at Pirate's Den with Undercover then hopping back on the Harley to get back to Vegas to get up for another ride with some fantastic folks around Red Rock.

It sounds exhausting but the energy of the people kept me high the whole time. It's reviews like the ones below that make all of the difference in the world!

Healing Through Music: The Journey of 'Baba Hanuman' and 'From the Heart'

I've always believed that music is one of the most powerful tools we have to heal — whether it's healing others, ourselves, or the world. Krishna Das's ‘Baba Hanuman’ is a song that has always moved me deeply with its message of devotion, compassion, and inner strength. The chant is dedicated to Hanuman, the Hindu deity known for his unwavering devotion, immense strength, and selfless service. It’s a call to tap into fearlessness, humility, and the love we need to serve others and face challenges.

When I learned that Devin Townsend was inspired by this very chant when writing his song 'From the Heart,' it felt like a great example of what I already aim to do in my music. Devin took the core of what 'Baba Hanuman' represents — devotion, spiritual connection, and inner resilience — and infused it into a powerful metal track. The final portion of ‘From the Heart’ even incorporates the mantra "Sri Ram Jai Ram," further blending these two seemingly distant worlds of Mantra and Metal.

For me, it clicked much earlier that Spirituality and Metal can coexist in profound ways. Yoga and Spirituality might not seem like natural companions to metal, but they’ve always been part of my journey. Seeing other artists like Devin Townsend embrace this blend is a great affirmation of the path I’m on.

Whether through my own songs or the ones I cover, I’m always trying to channel that deeper connection — the energy that 'Baba Hanuman' and 'From the Heart' both radiate — to bring healing and love into the world.

In a world that often feels chaotic, I’m grateful for music's ability to transcend genres, break down barriers, and remind us of our shared humanity.

This morning, I captured the moon still shining brightly—a reminder that we’re always on the edge of transformation. This last full moon eclipse in Pisces was a powerful one, ushering in a time of new beginnings and shifts. It calls us to embrace the unknown, trust the universe, and let go of old ways of thinking to make room for the limitless possibilities ahead. With the weather finally cooling down here in Vegas, it’s the perfect time to get out there, ride, and lean into the changes life has to offer. Keep moving forward and ride the wave of this new energy.

Looking Beyond the Headlines: Making Informed Choices

With tonight’s debate, it’s easy to get swept up in the spectacle, but as someone who tries to stay centered—neither left nor right—I think it’s essential to pause and dig deeper before forming opinions. What’s unfortunate is that the spotlight is solely on Trump and Harris, while other candidates like Jill Stein, Cornel West, and Libertarian candidate Chase Oliver are running as well. It’s a reminder that the media often narrows our choices when there’s more out there.

Here are a few ways to cut through the noise and think more critically:

Check Multiple Sources: Don’t rely on one news outlet. Look at how different sources, from left to right, report on the same events. Websites like AllSides, Ground News, Media Bias/Fact Check, and NewsGuard offer a variety of perspectives on the same story.

Beware of Emotional Language: Headlines are often designed to trigger an emotional reaction. Try to separate the facts from the drama to understand the core of the story.

Consider the Source: Who owns or funds the media you’re consuming? This can give you clues about potential bias. Understanding this can help you see beyond the narrative.

Distinguish Opinion from Reporting: There’s a difference between editorial opinion and objective reporting. Real journalism should focus on facts, regardless of political leanings (see my post on Walter Cronkite).

Look for Accountability: Reliable sources own up to their mistakes. If a news outlet issues corrections, it’s a good sign they prioritize accuracy over pushing a particular agenda.

At the end of the day, making an informed decision means looking beyond what’s on the surface. It's not about supporting "your side" at all costs, but about weighing everything and making the best choice for yourself. Let’s aim for more thoughtful, less reactive conversations—there’s a lot more going on beyond tonight’s stage.
