The monthly Men's Pub is a dedicated space for the men to form friendships, reduce isolation, and enjoy conversation. Adding familiar foods guys typically enjoy and may be associated with the pub-like atmosphere is "person-centered" care. The program is one of our thoughtfully planned activities designed to promote dignity, independence, and active participation. This memory care model is a perfect example, by giving choices. Prior to the "Pub Day" the men choose what type of food they would like. The final decision is based on popular choice. At the Mens Pub they continue to have choices; cheese or pepperoni, cola or Root beer. Pizza with friends, it's a great combo!

Keeping our Community Life team professionals updated on the latest scientific and medical advancements on Alzheimer's and dementia related disease's is an important factor in providing excelent care and programing. In addition to the required, in-house, Watermark training modules, we also participate in, in-person group classes, such as lectures and workshops. Today we had the opportunity to listen to doctors, nurses and other experts in the field educate about the different types of dementias. Sadly, it was discussed that the growing number of Americas who are being diagnosed are at a much earlier age. During the lunch hour, a panel of Retirement Community Directors talked about the top five most beneficial brain boosting foods. Beginning in February we will be incorporating more of the brain boosting foods into all of our Watermark University, "Culinary Creation" programs. Caroline, who leads activity programs in our Garden (Memory Care) neighborhood accompanied Kim, Director of Community Life, both learned more about a new Governemtnt program called Guide, a free program to those who have been diagnosed with dementia. To learn more about the program and find out if your family member qualifies, we encourage you to attend our first "Family Education" event on February 10 at 6:00 pm An invitation about the Guide program and Veteran benifits through this program will be sent via e-mail on Monday, January 26. All others are also welcome, please call 407-702-1300 to RSVP

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and reflect on the values that guide us every day: dignity, equality, respect, and compassion. In our community, we strive to create a place where everyone feels seen, valued, and supported, today and always.

Ladies Tea Time is a call for pinks up with smiles. We love gathering around the family table, while sipping tea from dainty tea cups and choice, delicious, sweet, confections. Today, we had our choice of mini chocolate chip muffins, bite size brownies, and crunchy shortbread cookies filled with hazelnut cream. We chatted about the creamy Chai tea in our cups and agreed that we all liked the chocolate treats. Attending familiar activities in the Garden neighborhood is designed to create a sense of purpose, and safety for residents living with dementia. After these types of activities, we often notice residents moods being more calm, happy and relaxed.
