Why the name "Holisticas"?

Fifteen years ago I opened as AnyBody Massage and my practice was calling in all body types - no matter your gender or age, massage therapy is for anybody.

After about five years I switched my business name to Maggie's Mobile Massage and the practice transformed into on-site house calls, offering me low overhead costs (easier to save for traveling) and clients were comfortably situated for massage therapy right in their own home.

Another five years went by and my business changed names again to MW Massage Therapy & Holistic Health Study where I practiced from a two bedroom apartment which was an ideal layout because most clients never even knew I lived there. This allowed for me to continue to travel abroad every three weeks and continue to offer massage therapy for the other three weeks stateside.

Finally, in 2023, shortly after the birth of my daughter I moved my practice to Winterset, added my bestie Jennifer McConahay to the payroll, and with it another business name ~ Holisticas. I landed on the name because holism is a huge part of my method to massage and to living life happily. The word is actually Spanish, but translates to Holistic all the same, plus it is an umbrella term for just about all the services we offer.

I can't promise I will never change the name again (though it feels unlikely), but I can promise that whether you had a massage at AnyBody, Maggie's Mobile Massage, or MW Massage Therapy & Holistic Health Study ~ the treatments and outcomes are only getting better and better at Holisticas!

Friends ~ I'm having a bit of an issue.

This FB business account was created in 2010 and after thousands of clients through these years, your reviews give my massage therapy services an 86%.

I won't tell you about my feelings on this subject because I appreciate honest reviews, but I don't like to settle for a B grade average...

Oh, and then there's the Google Maps business account which has one review (five stars, from my sister♥️).

True story ~

It was my junior year of high school and the guidance counselor asked, "So, tell me, what do you want to be when you grow up?"

I was seventeen years old and still hadn't decided. There were a few things I knew for sure, so I went with the process of elimination.

In high school, I was surprisingly interested in biology and anatomy, but not one bit excited by the education system.

I had hands for healing, that I knew as my truth. Yet, to become a doctor I needed eight years more in a structured education system which made me quiver, six to become a physical therapist, four to become a nurse, and a six month 'training' to become a medic. Each of these career titles the counselor suggested to me during our meeting and I went on my way to dial up the internet at home.

After some serious thought, even if I could talk myself into another 4-8 years in school, I remember interpreting each of those careers as "stressful" and "life-consuming", definitely not the right option for me.

The internet search led me to a very long list of trade schools and there listed in the middle ~ Massage Therapy (1000 hour program). I booked a facility tour and saw students sitting cross-legged on cushions in a semicircle discussing the power of manifesting and quantum physics. It was unlike any education structure I had seen before and it was love at first sight.

In another meeting with the guidance counselor, I confidently stated I wanted to be a licensed massage therapist.

I have hands for healing and I'm so grateful that the path to massage therapy unfolded effortlessly allowing me to offer this service in the same town where I graduated high school all those years ago!

My name is Maggie but you can always call me Friend. I’m the owner, bodyworker, and student of M.W Massage Therapy & Holistic Health Study. I was born and raised in Iowa, and sometimes I’m still growing [up] across the globe. I have been practicing as a licensed massage therapist since 2010, advancing my career when I became a certified personal trainer in 2012. Then in 2018 I traveled to Chang Mai, Thailand to study Thai-Yoga Massage.

I find my happy place is where my holistic studies meet my wanderlust spirit, and I have over 5 years, 50 states, and 13 countries worth of meaningful stories to prove it. Being a well-traveled midwesterner massage therapist means I am as authentic as they come. That salt of the earth kind of passion and obsession for my craft because I actually care about you: my client, my friend, my whole life’s purpose.
