Specific diseases that can be detected in an eye exam include:

Everyone should get regularly eye check ups!

Diabetes: Diabetes can cause diabetic retinopathy, a condition affecting the blood vessels in the retina.

High Blood Pressure: Hypertension can damage the retina's blood vessels, which can be detected during an eye exam.

High Cholesterol: Elevated cholesterol levels can sometimes lead to a ring around the cornea or deposits in the retina's blood vessels.

Glaucoma: Glaucoma, a condition that can damage the optic nerve, can be detected through comprehensive eye exams.

Macular Degeneration: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) can be identified by changes in the macula, responsible for clear vision.

Multiple Sclerosis: Inflammation in the optic nerve can be a sign of multiple sclerosis.
Brain Tumors: Changes in vision or the optic nerve can indicate a brain tumor.

Cancers: Skin cancers on the eyelid, or lymphoma and leukemia can be detected in the eye.

Autoimmune Conditions: Conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus can have ocular manifestations that can be detected.

Infectious Diseases: Some sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) can affect the eye.

Lyme Disease: Early signs of Lyme disease, such as eye floaters or optic nerve swelling, can be detected.
