There are still three chances to get outside, soak up the sun, and have some fun with other families! On Friday, July 25th from 11 AM to 12 PM — Two Playground Pals meetups will be happening at the same time:

🌞 Jen will be at Knowlton Park & Splash Pad (160 State St, Ellsworth)
🛝 Kat will be at United Methodist Church (58 Main St, Winthrop)

And to wrap up the summer… we’re throwing an 𝐄𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐲 on Thursday, August 8th from 11 AM to 4 PM at Morgan’s Beach (789 Hammett Rd, Enfield)!

Join us for a fun day at the beach, we will also have snacks, water, games, and music under the pavilion. It’s the perfect way to close out the summer—don’t miss it! 🎶🦆🌊⛱

He’s nonverbal, but he hears you.

When you’re around someone who doesn’t speak, remember: just because they can’t respond doesn’t mean they aren’t listening. And just because they don’t react the way you’d expect doesn’t mean they don’t understand.

I can’t claim to know exactly what goes on in Charlie’s mind, but I do know this, he picks up on more than he lets on. He doesn’t respond in words, but he hears us. He watches. He absorbs.

No, we don’t have back-and-forth conversations. Not yet. Maybe not ever. But I believe that what he hears doesn’t just disappear. It stays with him, even if we don’t always see how.

Maybe someday more of it will find a way out. Or maybe it won’t. Either way, it matters.
