Wednesday, September 18th was Chiropractic Founders day. On September 18th, 1895 DD Palmer of Davenport Iowa delivered the first chiropractic adjustment to Harvey Lillard, which restored his hearing after 17 years of near deafness.
I googled “Chiropractic Founders Day” and found an article from the National Institute of Health explaining the history of medical care in the late 1800’s. It has a very nice article about DD Palmer and how, in his natural healing practice, he discovered the connection between the spine and many types of pain and illness. His discoveries lead to that first adjustment and the profession which he named “Chiropractic”.
Today there are over 70000 Doctors of Chiropractic practicing in the US, and approximately 35 million Americans receive care each year.
