"WHAT HAPPENED TO THEIR BACK?!"

If you’ve never seen cupping or gua sha before, this might look alarming—but don’t worry! These marks are not bruises or injuries and will fade with time.

This client received a ️Sports Massage with Cupping and Gua Sha️, two techniques that help with muscle recovery, circulation, and overall well-being. This type of work is best for clients that need more than traditional therapeutic massage. The tissues are very tense and for individuals who tend to go for the deep elbow work. The scraping and/or the suction of the cups helps to release adhesions.

✨️WHAT IS HAPPENING BENEATH THE SKIN?
Cupping Therapy: The suction from the cups gently lifts the skin and underlying tissues, stretching the fascia and pulling stagnant blood to the surface. This temporarily breaks small capillaries (tiny blood vessels), which triggers the body’s natural healing response. Fresh, oxygen-rich blood rushes to the area, flushing out metabolic waste and promoting tissue repair.

Gua Sha: By applying pressure with a smooth-edged tool, we create controlled irritation in the superficial layers of the skin. This stimulates microcirculation, which means tiny capillaries dilate and increase blood flow. More circulation means more nutrients and oxygen delivered to the tissues, helping to break up muscle adhesions, reduce inflammation, and encourage faster healing.

✨️WHY DOES THIS HELP?
Your body interprets this controlled irritation as a signal to heal—stimulating the production of new, healthy capillaries and encouraging cellular regeneration. This process also activates the lymphatic system, helping to reduce swelling, flush out toxins, and support overall immune function.

Every body responds differently, and cupping or gua sha is only used when beneficial and when there are no contraindications.
