🌳 Tree of Dreams: Alvin’s Botanical Impact 🌳

Our Tree of Dreams honors Alvin, whose lifelong passion for botany left a remarkable imprint on Wisconsin and beyond.

For more than 50 years, Alvin volunteered with UW–Stevens Point’s Botanical Department, collecting plant specimens with care, curiosity, and dedication. He is the most prolific plant specimen collector in Wisconsin history, contributing an estimated 40,000–50,000 specimens—nearly a quarter of the UWSP Herbarium’s almost 200,000 archived specimens. 🌿

Recently, Alvin reunited with UWSP staff over a Chinese food lunch, sharing stories and fond memories from decades of work alongside colleagues and friends. It was a joyful reminder that behind every specimen is a person, a passion, and a legacy of learning.

Thank you, Alvin, for planting seeds of knowledge that will continue to grow for generations. 💚

🌳 The Tree of Dreams at The Waterford at Wisconsin Rapids 🌳

At The Waterford, the Tree of Dreams program is so important because it reminds us why we do what we do every single day. This program is about honoring the lives, stories, and wishes of our residents—making meaningful moments come true and creating memories that last a lifetime. Dreams don’t stop being important as we age, and the Tree of Dreams allows us to celebrate the heart, joy, and individuality of each resident we serve.
Our most recent Tree of Dreams was especially moving and centered around our resident Ann. Ann has eight children who love her dearly, but due to distance and busy lives, they are rarely all together at the same time. Ann’s dream was simple, yet incredibly powerful: to have all of her children in one room, playing cards, watching a polka band, singing, and dancing together—just being a family.
Ann is someone whose love spreads effortlessly throughout our community. Fellow residents feel it, staff feel it, and her family clearly carries that same compassionate spirit wherever they go. To make the day even more special, Ann also received a surprise visit from a dear friend of 50 years, who traveled a long distance just to be there and witness her dream come true. The joy, emotion, and love shared in that room were truly unforgettable.
Watching Ann laugh, sing, dance, and play cards surrounded by all eight of her kids—and a lifelong friend—was a powerful reminder of what the Tree of Dreams is really about: connection, love, and joy. Moments like these touch not only the dreamer, but everyone lucky enough to be part of them.
Thank you to everyone who helped make Ann’s dream a reality. This is the heart of The Waterford—where dreams grow, love gathers, and families come together. ❤️🌳
