Gardening is in full swing and i still don’t have any green beans!!!
I have had hard times in the past few years growing them- they don’t germinate, don’t emerge from the soil, chewed off by rabbits, and on the sad story goes.
Im. I realized that i was planting them too deep for one thing. My third try has successfully seen three bean plants that now have two full sets of leaves on them, but they are exposed to bunnies and i don’t know if they will last. I have plants in many places on my property so that’s why these are not protected, YET. I do have time today to fence them so i will get that done.
They are planted in an experimental raised bed that’s mostly filled with pet hair from the local groomer.
Hair does break down quickly in a large compost pile that’s hot, but the cooler bed hasn’t had the hair changing into soil like i thought it might. The green beans in this hair bed look like they need some nutrients which i will add today. I thought beans made their own nitro but mine need more i think. The squash in the back look pretty good, you see a sunflower that the deer ate leaves off it, and tiny in the back ground is one scrawny milkw**d. My plan is to let milkw**d take it over and fill it up. That way I’ll have a great place to attract monarchs and enjoy watching the caterpillars grow.
