A great in brace correction for a young adult patient. Often times this much correction in brace for an adult indicates there is hyper mobility in the spine. .

This is an example of a thoracolumar curve. This means the apex or most curved part of the spine is at the transition point of the end of the thoracic spine (spine that has ribs attached) and the lumbar spine ( lower spine with no ribs attached). Thoracolumar curves can be tricky to treat as sometimes they respond to thoracic curve treatment methods, other times lumbar curve treatment methods, and sometimes a combination of the two.

Check out this unique curve! This curve is unique because there are 2 curves in the thoracic spine. One apex is a T6 ( the 6th thoracic vertebra) and second at T12 (12th and last thoracic vertebra). At our clinic we have treated this style curve quite often. Thoracic curves that have an apex of T7 or lower (T6, T5 etc…) are challenging to target with bracing and exercise because it is so high in the spine. The good news however is curves with a high apex can often be very stable in adulthood.
