Elmore State Park is excited to host the 2026 Ice Fishing Festival as part of Vermont’s statewide Free Ice Fishing Day!

Never been ice fishing? This is your chance to give it a try. On Free Ice Fishing Day, no fishing license is required, and all ages are welcome!

Vermont Fish and Wildlife staff and instructors from the Let’s Go Fishing Program will be on hand to help you get started and build skills, including:

Ice safety
Knot tying and baiting hooks
Using ice fishing rods and tip-ups
Fishing regulations
Fish identification

No equipment? No problem. Ice fishing gear will be available to borrow for the day, or feel free to bring your own.

Fish and Wildlife staff will operate a fish fry station, serving up samples of locally caught Vermont fish, and there will be plenty of hot cocoa on hand. Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather, and ice cleats are strongly recommended.
