Nearly every family has a member who has suffered, is suffering, or will suffer with alcoholism. Alcoholism touches nearly every family in one way or another. We know when a person, man or woman, goes into treatment the spouse is left holding the bag. They care for the children, handle the bills, clean and maintain the household. They also work, more than likely, and serve the needs of their spouse in treatment as well. Visits are sometimes allowed while in treatment, and emotions run high. Questions arise: “Why am I doing this?”, “Is he (she) ever going to get better?”, “Is it worth staying around?”
Feelings of anxiety and distrust, questions whether all of this is worth it, are normal reactions to an abnormal situation. Alcoholics can get better. They can successfully recover. But when and how? The Birch Nest offers couples new to sobriety the chance to rebuild their relationships in an environment of love and support. We will offer meetings, group conscience, activities, volunteerism, and many many more opportunities to be of service, not only to themselves, but to others. We will offer an environment which caters to the romance in a relationship, the camaraderie of group effort, the realization that life is just as beautiful and meaningful sober. Meet the couple behind The Birch Nest: Jack and Lori Rodgers. Jack is in recovery. Lori is not. Together they've been successful in their relationship, having weathered storms, challenges, setbacks and such, and they knew they had something to offer others in similar situations. With the grace of God they began this journey of faith, hope and the service to others. A year and a half ago they found the perfect property in Southern Oregon, renovated a home, accumulated some amazing livestock, built numerous barns, coops and out-buildings, and acquired three beautiful cabins. But they need your help. We need to complete the three cabins, the deck around the cabins, the community kitchen, bathroom/dual shower, recreation room and much more. We just need some friends to help us get the “Birch Nest” finished so we can open up. The majority of the construction has been completed by Jack and Lori, and while they have accomplished so much already, progress has slowed with lack of extra hands and depleted funds. But we can help finish their dream of a place that is filled with hope and serenity.
