Link below to share your contact info, and we'll reach out to you to share more info and talk about enrollment. The Fort Peck Diabetes Prevention & Heart Health Program is a 12-month program with weekly (1st 6 months) and monthly (2nd 6 months) sessions. Weekly sessions focus on lifestyle change strategies to improve nutrition and exercise habits, relying on support from classmates and guidance from a certified Lifestyle Coach. Monthly sessions are designed to guide the nutrition, exercise, and weight loss goals met during the program. Every class is facilitated by a trained lifestyle coach who will support you in your journey through lessons and discussions, to help you stay motivated to lose weight, gain confidence, establish healthier eating behaviors and identify enjoyable physical activity. Program is for adults aged 18+ who have prediabetes. It is the point in A1C and blood sugar levels that is higher than normal, but not quite high enough to be considered full-blown type-2 diabetes. As a community-led organization rooted in the homelands of the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes, we remain committed to preserving and uplifting the cultural teachings of our Dakota and Nakona ancestors. In alignment with this commitment, we are honored to acknowledge the recent successful buffalo harvest—an event carried out with deep respect, purpose, and cultural responsibility.

Tatanka Oyate, is more than a source of sustenance; it is a sacred relative that has provided for our people since time immemorial. Through this harvest, our organization is not only nourished physically but spiritually—guided by teachings of humility, reciprocity, and community care. The meat from this harvest will support our upcoming programming, including our Food Sovereignty Conference this fall, where we will continue conversations around reclaiming traditional lifeways and nourishing our people with ancestral knowledge and food systems.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Wanbdi Growing Thunder, whose role as shooter was carried out with the utmost respect and cultural integrity. We also thank the Fort Peck Buffalo Program for their invaluable support and continued collaboration. Their work ensures that our community has access to these sacred relatives and the teachings they carry.

This harvest is a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of our people. It reinforces our path forward—a path grounded in culture, guided by tradition, and committed to the health and wellbeing of our community and future generations.
