It’s official — the wooden-boat season in New England has drawn to a close for 2025, and our beloved fleets will rest quietly until 2026 … but before you store away that gleaming Chris-Craft or mahogany runabout, let’s make sure it’s tucked in with care and ready to leap back into the sun when the thaw comes.

The The Antique and Classic Boat Society, Inc. has pulled together the essential steps to winterizing your precious craft — from draining engine blocks to ventilating hulls and everything in between. Follow this guide to preserve your boat’s charm, safeguard its performance, and ensure that next season starts with nothing but smooth water and sunshine.

As Boating Season Winds Down...

The docks are getting quieter, the mornings are a little crisper, and it’s that bittersweet time of year again — when we start thinking about putting our beloved wooden boats to bed for the winter.

Hauling, cleaning, draining, and winterizing are all part of the ritual, but it’s also the season for planning what’s next. Maybe your boat needs some varnish work, fresh upholstery, or a new plank or two. Or maybe you’ve got a full restoration project waiting for those long winter months.

Let’s hear from you — what’s on your off-season to-do list?
Share your winter projects, maintenance plans, or even photos of your boats heading into storage. We’d love to see what everyone is working on to keep these classics shining for another summer on the water.
