Headache relief—without medication? 👂💨
This simple technique uses gentle air puffs into the ear to help reduce headache pain naturally.
Using an insufflation bulb, small pulses of air are delivered about once per second for 1–2 minutes, alternating sides based on where the headache is felt. While some studies used longer sessions, even short applications may help support relief.
This approach has been shown to help with:
✔️ Migraines
✔️ Tension headaches
✔️ Head pressure
✔️ “Band-like” headaches

“The team at NWI provided me with a completely different approach to dealing with some of the issues related to my depression and anxiety. Since working with them, I have had a much less intense outbreak when symptoms do occur. The process they follow may be different than other providers, but as someone who has gone through the full treatment, my life has gotten significantly better in many ways, especially in dealing with my anxiety.”
We are honored to play a role in all of our patients’ healing journeys.

What does peripheral nerve stimulation actually do? ⚡🧠
In this demonstration, we’re using an RPSS device (Repetitive Peripheral Somatosensory Stimulation) to stimulate the median nerve.
Here’s what’s happening:
✔️ The device delivers a pulse about once per second
✔️ When placed correctly, you’ll see a small, involuntary muscle twitch
✔️ That twitch creates motor output
✔️ At the same time, sensory input travels back to the brain
This two-way communication (motor + sensory) helps activate specific brain pathways.
In this demo, stimulating the right median nerve is designed to influence:
• The right cerebellum
• The left side of the brain
Depending on the goal, stimulation can be applied to either side — or even both sides — to target different brain regions.
This type of neuromodulation is one of the ways we help activate and engage specific neural circuits in a precise, measurable way.

On this episode of the Neurologic Wellness Podcast, Dr. David Traster sits down with neuroscience technologist Cameron Allen of Neuro Progeny to discuss how virtual reality (VR) + biofeedback are changing the future of brain-based treatment. 🧠✨
After watching his brother struggle with depression and long-term effects of a traumatic brain injury (TBI), Cameron set out to build something different — a system that trains the nervous system directly.
🔹 Why traditional counseling & psychiatry sometimes fall short
🔹 Why all behavior is adaptive
🔹 How Heart Rate Variability (HRV) measures nervous system resilience
🔹 How VR becomes a real-time biofeedback tool
🔹 Neuroplasticity in post-concussion recovery & mood regulation
🔹 The future of wearable diagnostics & hyperspectral imaging
Unlike traditional exposure-based VR, this system reacts in real time to your HRV — teaching your brain and body how to regulate stress, improve autonomic balance, and strengthen brain-body communication.

🧠 29-Year-Old Female Case Study – Neurofeedback for Brain Fog, Head Pressure & Nervous System Dysregulation
This patient came to us struggling with:
✔️ Head pressure & chronic headaches
✔️ Brain fog
✔️ Memory issues
✔️ Confusion
✔️ Signs of an overactive nervous system
📊 Initial QEEG Brain Map Findings:
Her quantitative EEG revealed:
🔴 Excess theta activity (linked to cognitive slowing & brain fog)
🔴 Excess high beta activity (often associated with stress & nervous system overactivation)
🎯 Treatment Plan:
Targeted neurofeedback therapy to retrain these dysregulated brain wave patterns and promote healthier brain function.
📈 After 15 Sessions:
• Significant reduction in excess theta activity (brain map shifted from red to lighter, more optimal colors)
• High beta still being addressed as treatment continues
• Noticeable improvements in overall brain regulation
💬 Patient-Reported Outcomes:
• Decreased headaches & head pressure
• Reduced brain fog
• Improved memory & cognitive clarity
• Able to drive longer distances without symptom flare-ups
Neurofeedback supports the brain’s ability to self-correct through neuroplasticity — helping regulate both cognitive performance and nervous system balance.
If you’re dealing with brain fog, chronic headaches, memory issues, or persistent “wired but tired” symptoms, a brain-based assessment may provide answers.

Dr. Nick talks about the benefits of stimulating peripheral nerves for enhancing immunity. The nervous system and the immune system are highly connected; therefore, each system can affect the other’s function. The nervous system controls immune cells by either stimulation of organs that produce those cells or the cells themselves. This helps the brain play a role in clearance of infection and autoimmunity. At the same time, if the brain is in a poor state due to chronic stress and other environmental triggers, inflammation can occur leading to chronic infections and autoimmunity. This results in a vicious cycle that includes a poorly functioning brain and immune system. Stimulating the brain through peripheral nerves can help reset some brain areas and offer better control over the immune system.

1. Drowning is one of the leading causes of anoxic brain injury in children. Learning to swim is non-negotiable. My kids started intensive swim lessons before they turned two.
2. Helmets aren’t optional. Bikes and scooters, every time.
3. I’m all about the outdoor play, but no diving into dark water. If you don’t know the depth or what’s underneath, it’s just not worth the risk of a head injury.
4. You won’t find e-bikes or e-scooters in my house.
5. Baseline neuro testing matters. We want to know things like memory, reaction time, and processing speed before an injury so we have something to compare to if a concussion happens. It should also be updated as kids grow. We do this in our office for families who want to be proactive.
6. Strength, agility, and coordination training are some of the best ways to help prevent concussions in sports. Start early.
7. And most importantly, teach your kids to value and protect their brain through their thoughts, their nutrition, and their actions. Because it’s the only one they’ll ever have.

Your breath is one of the most powerful tools for nervous system regulation 🫁✨
Diaphragmatic breathing isn’t just about oxygen — it directly impacts your brain, posture, and gut health.
Here’s why it matters 👇
The diaphragm (right under your rib cage) has 3 major functions:
✔️ Breathing efficiency
✔️ Core & postural stability
✔️ Supporting the lower esophageal sphincter (may help reduce acid reflux)
When done correctly, diaphragmatic breathing:
🔹 Expands into the sides to create a “canister” shape for better stability
🔹 Stimulates the vagus nerve as the organs shift with each breath
🔹 Engages the frontal lobe for “top-down” nervous system control
💡 Optimal rhythm:
Inhale through nose for 4–5 seconds
Exhale through nose for 5–6 seconds
= ~10 seconds per breath
= 6 breaths per minute
This rate has been shown to support vagus nerve activation and parasympathetic (rest & regulate) function.

Dr. Mike Drzewiecki was honored to be presenting again for the third year at the 23rd Annual World Congress of the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics in Los Angeles this week (April 16–19).
SBMT continues to set the standard for global collaboration—bringing together leaders in neuroscience, neurosurgery, psychiatry, engineering, and technology to advance innovation in brain health, neurotechnology, and translational medicine. This meeting is where cutting-edge science meets real-world clinical application.
This year he presented on:
• Convergence Excess Following mTBI: Clinical Patterns and Neurological Implications
• What Darkness Reveals About Post-Concussive Oculomotor Control
These talks focus on uncovering less-recognized visual and oculomotor patterns after brain injury—and how different testing environments (light vs. dark) can reveal entirely different neurological signatures.
He was grateful to be part of a conference pushing the boundaries of how we understand and treat the brain.

“I was treated at the NWI around 5 months ago for CRPS in my right leg. It had progressed to the point where I could no longer walk and was contemplating quitting my job due to so many call outs. When I arrived at the NWI I had very little hope left, but Dr. Nick was very confident that he could help me- and he did. Although the treatment was very mentally and physically taxing for me, I have yet to have any episodes with my legs since returning home. I have full mobility and no neurological pain in my legs anymore, and if they do start to hurt I am able to use the exercise he’s given me to make it stop. I’m very thankful for this place and all that they did for me!”
