“This place saved my sons life. My son couldn’t breathe right, was losing his vision, and was even losing his ability to walk. We went to several different neurological therapist before coming here. Spent $10,000 or more on help with nothing working! After one week at this place he made a 180 change. My son now 2 years from this FND diagnosis, is fully better, playing every sport. You wouldn’t even know anything was ever wrong with him.
This place truly does work miracles and I wouldnt have my son back today if not for them! Thank you so much for everything!!!!”

👁️ Do Your Eyes Work as a Team? You Might Have Convergence Insufficiency.

Many people assume blurry vision or headaches are simply “eye strain.” But in many cases, the real issue is convergence insufficiency — a problem where the eyes struggle to work together when focusing on something up close.

When you read, use your phone, or track a fast-moving ball in sports, your eyes must converge — meaning they both turn inward in perfect coordination to focus on the same target. If that system isn’t working properly, the brain receives mismatched visual information.

That’s when symptoms begin.

Common signs of convergence insufficiency include:
• Headaches while reading or using screens
• Eye strain or fatigue
• Blurry or double vision
• Difficulty concentrating while reading
• Words moving or losing your place on the page
• Motion sensitivity or dizziness

But the impact isn’t just academic or related to screens.

⚽ Sports performance can also suffer.

Athletes rely heavily on binocular vision, depth perception, and rapid eye coordination. When the eyes don’t converge efficiently, it can affect:

• Depth perception
• Reaction time
• Hand-eye coordination
• Ball tracking
• Timing and accuracy

This is why vision training and neuro-visual rehabilitation are increasingly used by elite athletes. Improving how the brain controls the eyes can enhance both visual comfort and athletic performance.

The key point:
👁️ Vision problems are often brain problems, not just eye problems.

With the right testing and targeted visual training, many people can significantly improve how their eyes and brain work together.

Your eyes aren’t just for seeing — they’re a critical part of how the brain processes the world. This is why at The Neurologic Wellness Institute we specialize in neuroviual assessments and treatments.

Why molecular hydrogen?

✔️ Acts as a selective antioxidant
✔️ Targets harmful free radicals linked to inflammation
✔️ Supports mitochondrial function (cellular energy production)
✔️ Helps create an environment where the brain can heal more efficiently

We often use this support for patients experiencing:
• Dizziness
• Brain fog
• Dysautonomia
• Post-concussion symptoms
• Neurological fatigue

By optimizing cellular energy and reducing oxidative stress, we help prepare the brain to respond better to targeted neurological rehabilitation.

Why Shouldn’t You Pull All-Nighters to Study for a Test?

Dr. Nick talks about the importance of sleep for memory consolidation. Many high school and college students will stay up all night to study for an exam, but they are actually doing more harm than good. Sleep deprivation and chronic sleep restriction causes increased permeability in the blood brain barrier (BBB). The BBB regulates which molecules can enter the brain tissue from the blood. When it is damaged, it can cause inflammation and decreased functioning of brain areas, especially the hippocampus, which is essential to memory consolidation. For this reason, quality sleep after studying is essential for converting short-term into long-term memory, and hence, better success on current and future tests. Check out the video for more in depth information on the detrimental effects of sleep deprivation!

Training the brain to stay calm under stress 🧠

This breath-hold exercise is designed to work with the amygdala — the area of the brain involved in fear processing and emotional response.

The amygdala is highly sensitive to changes in oxygen levels. By using structured breath holds, we can gently challenge this system and support improved regulation during stressful states.

The exercise sequence:
• Take a deep breath in
• Fully exhale and hold
• When you can’t hold any longer → take a small “baby breath” in
• Hold again
• Repeat
• On the third oxygen urge → return to a normal breath

During training, pulse and SpO₂ levels are monitored to observe physiologic response and guide progression safely.

This type of training may be used with:
• Individuals experiencing anxiety
• High performers (athletes, executives, high-stress roles)
• Those looking to improve stress resilience

The goal is not to eliminate stress — but to improve how the brain responds to it.

Creatine isn’t just for muscle.
It’s for your brain. 🧠⚡

On the latest episode of the Neurologic Wellness Podcast, Dr. David Traster interviews Mark Faulkner of CON-CRĒT explains why creatine hydrochloride (CrHCL) may be one of the most important molecules for total body and neurological health.

Here’s what most people don’t know:

✔️ Creatine is the rate-limiting molecule for ATP (cellular energy)
✔️ Your brain uses ~20% of your body’s creatine
✔️ Over 65% of Americans may be low in creatine
✔️ T-cells rely on creatine to fight viruses & abnormal cells
✔️ Creatine is NOT a stimulant — it supports energy at the cellular level

We also break down:

• Creatine monohydrate vs creatine HCL
• Kidney myths & creatinine labs explained
• Bioavailability differences
• Dosing for strength vs cognitive support
• Research in Huntington’s disease, TBI & concussion

Creatine isn’t just about performance.
It’s about brain resilience, immune strength, and metabolic health.

The brain has a built-in “braking system” known as the basal ganglia 🧠

This region plays an important role in helping regulate:
• Unwanted movements
• Eye movements
• Distracting thoughts
• Emotional responses

In this Go/No-Go card exercise:
🟥 Red = right hand
⬛ Black = left hand

While the rules are simple, the task challenges response inhibition, attention, and cognitive control. As accuracy improves, speed can be gradually increased to continue strengthening focus and processing efficiency.

Exercises like this are often used in neurologic rehabilitation to support concentration and impulse control.

The Geoboard brain exercise challenges mental rotation and spatial awareness 🧠

“Geoboard Rotate Left” is part of the Neuro Sensorimotor Integrator (NSI) — a tool designed to engage vestibular and cognitive networks simultaneously.

In this task, the patient must:
• Mentally rotate a box 90 degrees
• Visualize the new orientation
• Reproduce the pattern on the rotated side

This type of vestibular-based cognitive training supports:
✔️ Spatial awareness
✔️ Mental rotation skills
✔️ Visual-spatial processing
✔️ Performance in athletes
✔️ Recovery after concussion (where mental rotation is often impaired)

Mental rotation is a foundational skill for both sports performance and neurologic rehabilitation.

“I am not someone who is easily impressed, but Dr. Nick and the team at the Neurologic Wellness Institute exceeded my hopes in every way. I am genuinely impressed and deeply grateful.

I had been struggling with chronic migraines (over 350 in the last 3.5 years) while also treating chronic Lyme disease with a specialist for the past year. Although some Lyme symptoms were improving, the migraines continued and severely impacted my ability to work/ parent/ and function day-to-day. My quality of life had steadily declined, and I reached a point where I felt exhausted, discouraged, and hopeless. When I first heard about Dr. Nick’s clinic, I was curious, but too burnt out to feel optimistic. Still, the moment I walked through the door, I felt a sense of calm and knew I was in good hands.

And, the results speak for themselves. In the past four weeks, I have had one manageable migraine—something I truly never imagined was possible. That shift alone has been life changing. I also feel more fortified, less fatigued, have far less brain fog and feel like I can function as I used to when I was feeling well.

The clinic itself is clean, well lit, and thoughtfully run. The staff is professional, warm, and highly competent. Chris at the front desk is not only friendly but genuinely kind and supportive; an essential quality when working with patients navigating neurological and autonomic challenges. Dr. Nick is a true gem. He is professional, compassionate, and an exceptional listener. I never felt rushed or dismissed. Instead, I felt heard, respected, and partnered with throughout my care. His insight, care, and expertise are remarkable, and his program is absolutely worth the significant investment of time, energy, and money.

I cannot recommend Dr. Nick and his team highly enough. Finding this clinic gave me something I had nearly lost... real hope. I am profoundly grateful to be functioning again, feeling better, and finally able to enjoy my life. 🙏”

PPPD: The dizziness that doesn’t show up on MRI

If you feel off-balance every day…
If grocery stores feel overwhelming…
If scrolling on your phone makes you feel worse…
If doctors keep saying “everything looks normal”…

You might be dealing with Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness (PPPD).

Here’s what that means 👇

PPPD is a chronic dizziness condition where the brain becomes overly sensitive to movement, posture, and visual stimulation.

It often starts after:
• A vestibular infection
• A concussion
• A panic attack
• A period of intense stress
• Vestibular migraine

Even when the original issue improves, the brain can stay in threat mode.

Instead of smoothly blending balance, vision, and body awareness…
It becomes hyper-alert and overcorrects.

Common symptoms:
• Constant rocking or swaying
• Feeling “off” or disconnected
• Worse in busy environments
• Worse when standing upright
• Worse when stressed or tired

And it lasts for 3+ months.

Important:
This is not “just anxiety.”
This is not imaginary.

It’s a brain network problem.
And brain networks can change.

Treatment may include:
• Vestibular rehab
• Gradual movement exposure
• Visual-motion training
• Nervous system regulation
• Sometimes medication

The goal isn’t to suppress your brain.
It’s to retrain it.

If this sounds like you, you’re not crazy.
Your brain may just be stuck in protection mode.

And protection mode can be rewired. 🧠

Brock Beads are a simple but powerful tool used in vision and neurological rehab to improve eye coordination and convergence ability.

When someone has difficulty converging their eyes (either convergence insufficiency or convergence excess), the brain may struggle to merge the two images from each eye into one clear image. This can lead to diplopia (double vision), eye strain, headaches, and difficulty focusing.

🔹 Focusing on a closer bead → creating convergence (eyes coming together)
🔹 Shifting to the far bead → creating divergence (eyes coming apart)

This type of training helps retrain binocular vision, improve eye teaming, and support patients with:
• Double vision
• Post-concussion visual symptoms
• Eye strain
• Headaches
• Difficulty focusing

When the eyes don’t work together, the brain has to work harder.

Brock Beads training is not for everyone. A comprehensive neurological exam can help determine if this is a beneficial tool or if it may be counter productive for you.
