When Should You Start Therapy Following a Concussion?

Dr. Nick talks about the time to start therapy after sustaining a concussion. A concussion can cause a lot of symptoms, some including headaches, nausea, dizziness, and balance problems. These symptoms can be due to vestibular dysfunction in which there was acute damage to the areas in the inner ear and/or brain that give one a sense of orientation and balance. For this reason, vestibular therapy has been shown to help those with concussion symptoms. The article discussed is a pilot study that describes how starting vestibular therapy as early as possible may be better for symptom resolution. Check out the video for more in depth information on why vestibular therapy should be initiated early following a concussion! n

What is the Importance of the Cerebellum in Brain Rehab?

Dr. Nick talks about how the cerebellum is used to improve function during brain rehabilitation. The cerebellum is termed the ‘little brain’ because it looks like the cerebrum (or ‘big brain’), but it actually has more neurons than the rest of the brain combined. It coordinates actions, thoughts, and emotions in order to create more accurate responses to a variety of external stimuli. For this reason, the cerebellum can be activated with help of a variety of senses, and sometimes, combining senses is better. The cerebellum offers this reserve that can be used when other areas in the brain, or the cerebellum itself, becomes damaged. In this way, the cerebellum helps to compensate for damage in other brain regions in order to improve symptoms following a stroke, head injury, or inflammatory insult. Check out the video for more in depth information on the cerebellum!

This past weekend, NWI held its 2nd Annual Doctors Summit in Chicago—and it did not disappoint.

It was truly incredible with the amount of depth, clinical relevance, and complexity of every presentation.

We covered a wide range of powerful topics, including:
-Advanced autonomic testing (HRV with deep breathing, Valsalva phases, tilt table, handgrip response)
-QEEG & neurofeedback case reviews
-BPPV testing & treatment, VOG interpretations, central & peripheral vestibular rehab
-Immune dysregulation across neurological conditions—from pediatric to geriatric
-Functional medicine through an immune-first lens
-Eye movement testing & rehab strategies
-Red light therapy protocols: LED vs. laser
-Patient communication and ROF
-Clinical applications of CRPS, ADHD, migraines, cranial therapy, postural control, and so much more.

We also dove deep into patient communication, report of findings, and how to translate science into results.
Plus, we made time to enjoy Chicago—nothing beats that iconic architecture boat tour.

Our providers are constantly doing everything they can to provide the best service they can offer our patients.
