James K. Richardson

James K. Richardson, 83, passed away on March 16, 2026, at Westchester Medical Center. Born on February 15, 1943, in Liberty, New York, he was the son of the late James H. Becker and Catherine Dulaff. James was later adopted by Harold Richardson, a loving and caring father.

James proudly served his country in the United States Army, a service he carried with great pride throughout his life. His love for his country remained strong in his heart and everyday life. He was a longtime and active member of several veterans’ organizations including the VFW, the VVA, and the DAV. For many years, he served as the County Commander of the DAV. A few years ago, he was honored to participate in the Hudson Valley Honor Flight, traveling from Stewart Airport to Washington, D.C., and back—an experience he cherished, especially as he was able to share it with his son. He was also a proud member of the Purple Heart.

James worked as a milk pasteurizing plant manager for Eastern Correctional Facility, a bus driver for Freddie Ahrens, and a custodian for Tri-Valley Central School. Outside of work, he was deeply involved in many hobbies and organizations. He was a member of the Neversink–Roundout Antique Machinery Association, the Catskill Exotic Bird Club, the Beaver Dam Hunting Club, the Liberty Elks, and the Wawarsing Rod and Gun Club. A true outdoorsman, James enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time in nature.

He had a love for animals, especially birds, and spent many years raising pigeons and chickens. He also enjoyed attending gun shows and military shows, collecting fi****ms, and participating in Civil War reenactments as a member of the Catskill Bushwackers. Some of his favorite moments were the simple ones—family game nights and sitting by the pond feeding the fish.

James loved his family deeply and cherished the time he spent with them.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Theresa Richardson; his son, Kenneth Richardson and his wife Michelle; his siblings, Larry Richardson and his wife Peggy, Tom Richardson, and Sally Richardson and her companion Steve; his dear friend, Tom Wright; his cousin, Eleanor Aherns; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 8:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Harriet Wilkins.

Interment will take place on Saturday, March 21, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.

Bessie Rose Steele

Bessie Rose Steele, age 30, passed away on March 6, 2026, at Garnet Health Medical Center.

She was born on April 20, 1995, in Harris, New York, the beloved daughter of Tiffany and Delzine Gilson.

Bessie was a proud and devoted mother to her three beautiful children, Brantley, Heaven, and Carson, who were the center of her world. She cherished every moment spent with them as a stay-at-home mom and always made sure they felt her love. Bessie also worked as a home health aide, where her caring nature and compassion for others shined through.

She loved music and spending time with her family and friends. Bessie had a vibrant personality-she was often described as loud, outgoing, fun to be around, and the life of the party. She was known for her sense of humor and, as her loved ones joked, her occasional hard-headedness.

Bessie enjoyed many hobbies and creative outlets. She loved drawing and often used her artwork as inspiration for her tattoos. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and doing diamond art. She also loved cooking and took pride in preparing meals for her family, especially her shepherd's pie, baked ziti, and most recently her favorite-Mississippi roast.

An animal lover at heart, Bessie adored animals, especially monkeys, and had a special place in her heart for her beloved dog, Maxi-Pad. She also enjoyed camping, fishing, and taking walks. Some of her favorite moments were watching her fiancé, Jeffrey, and her son Carson ride the ATV together. She also loved characters like Stitch and Betty Boop.

Bessie is survived by her loving children, Brantley, Heaven, and Carson; her fiancé, Jeffrey Rose; her parents, Tiffany and Delzine Gilson; her siblings, Delzine Gilson III, Anthony Gilson, and Jeffery Gilson and his wife Destiny; her nieces and nephews, Kayden Robinson and River Gilson; her grandmother, Barbara Williams; and her best friends, Melissa Lynch, Chadeisha Cleveland, and Alexandria Vaile, along with many other family members and friends who will miss her deeply.

She was predeceased by her grandmother, Janet Davis, and her grandfathers, Leonard Steele and Victor Davis.

Service were handled privately at the convenience of the family.

Violet R. Dlugatch

Violet "Sally" Rae Dlugatch passed away Saturday morning, March 7th, 2026, after a short illness. Sally was born July 12th, 1936, in South Fallsburg to Oscar "Brick" Burger and Hazel Cross Burger, the second of three children. Sally graduated from Fallsburg High School in 1954 and immediately began working for the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) as a telephone operator until the late 1960s. In 1961, Sally met her husband, Donald "Don" Dlugatch, of 64 years. They married on February 24, 1962. Their son, John David, was born with spina bifida on September 20, 1962, and would pass away almost a year later on September 10, 1963. They had a daughter, Diane Stacy (Dlugatch) Helms, on November 9, 1964. Like many growing up in the Borscht Belt, she eventually moved on to work at The Pines Hotel as a telephone operator until 1972, connecting outside calls to hotel guests. In 1976, after being a stay-at-home mother, she began working for the Fallsburg Central School District as Cafeteria Staff until retiring in 2010. She became a grandmother on July 11, 1988, to her granddaughter Amanda (Helms) Ybañez and again later on December 25, 1989, to her grandson Robert D. Helms. She became a great grandmother on January 17, 2022, to her great granddaughter and namesake, Isla Rae Ybañez.

Sally is predeceased by her husband, Donald "Don" Dlugatch, son, John David Dlugatch, parents, Hazel & Oscar "Brick" Burger, sister, Thelma Bechuck, & son-in-law Robert A. Helms. She is survived by her daughter Diane Helms of Tupper Lake, Granddaughter Amanda (Helms) Ybañez & her husband Joseph, of Carthage, grandson, Robert "Bobby" D. Helms of Tupper Lake, Great Granddaughter, Isla R. Ybañez, Foreign Exchange Grandson, Marek Sedlák, of Bratislava, Slovakia, her sister, Janet Burger Moss of Callicoon and several nieces and nephews.

Sally was as cautious and safe as her husband was reckless and fearless. She was the first to tell you to be careful and the first to tell you, "I told you so" when you got hurt. She supported her husband in all his endeavors from being prominent members of the CSEA family, he as president and she as treasurer for over 20 years, to watching him shoot at the local Rod & Gun Club. She was a constant presence in her grandchildren's lives, even when they moved five hours away, coming up almost every weekend, taking them on spring breaks and for stretches of time in the summer. At 4'10 she could barely see over the steering wheel but would be your biggest advocate. She was at hockey games and volleyball games, helped her granddaughter move in and out of college dorms and the sorority house, and offered up her car for her granddaughter's road test at 16. She burnt burgers in the broiler and then blamed it on the broiler or her husband for feeding the cow too much corn and always had vanilla ice cream in the freezer. She was close with her great granddaughter, savoring daily visits and meals at the nursing home and hearing about her day. She enjoyed lively conversations with her grandson-in-law; he could always make her laugh. She lived a quiet, unassuming life and was content living in the home her father built.

Memorial visitation will be at Colonial Family Funeral Home 396 State Route 52 Woodbourne, NY from 2-4pm on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
