Our EQUIP team members had an amazing visit to WALK-FM 97.5 as part of our ongoing career exploration activities. Team members toured the station, tested out real broadcasting equipment, and got a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to keep a radio station running. From on-air talent to production to support roles, team members connected with professionals across the industry and explored a variety of career paths. It was an engaging day of learning, discovery, and inspiration that helped build a deeper understanding of workplace skills and opportunities.
A big shout out to Big Mike and the WALK-FM team for being such incredible hosts!

Each month, EQUIPâs âCareer of the Monthâ dives into a new industryâand this time, we went behind the scenes of maintenance! On Thursday, April 9, we welcomed Rick LaLuna, Facilities and Operations Specialist at the Center, to our hub. Rick gave our team a hands-on look at the professional world of maintenance, from custodian to facility management. The biggest takeaways? The importance of professionalism, reliability, and the deep pride that comes with keeping things running smoothly. Our group loved exploring this career path and getting a real feel for the industry. A massive thank you to Rick for sharing his expertise and inspiring our team!

Last month, the EQUIP Program turned the spotlight on the grocery industry for its "Career of the Month." Participants dove into the sector's diverse roles and employer expectations through a targeted curriculum and a standout presentation by team member Aury. Drawing on his experience at Wild By Nature, Aury provided firsthand insights into daily responsibilities and the essential skills needed to thrive in a grocery environment. By leading the session, he didn't just educate his peersâhe also sharpened his own leadership, public speaking, and communication skills. We are incredibly grateful to Aury for his leadership and for sharing his expertise with the group!

The Center boasts a rich tradition of over 60 years supporting developmentally disabled children, adults, their families and the community. Government and societal changes present numerous challenges to organizations like ours and compel us to rethink historical models of operation. The Center ushers in an exciting new era focused upon meeting these challenges through excellence, innovation and a renewed dedication to our core mission. Our success integrating historical wisdom and seasoned staff with an infusion of new ideas and personnel uniquely positions the Center to lead the industry through an evolving landscape.
Fiscal stability has enabled the Center to develop three state of the art day programs and commence major upgrades to our residential and school facilities. We are planning two new group homes for students aging out of our childrenâs residence and an expansion of our vocational and pre-vocational opportunities for children and adults. Strategic program development paired with efficient utilization of resources has resulted in enhanced services to individuals and improved employee compensation packages.
We recently launched our Support with Dignity initiative to enhance opportunities for individuals to live with greater independence within their communities. This initiative embraces three pillars: Respectful Interactions; Promoting Independence; and, fostering Purposeful, Person-Centered Activities. Through a collective commitment to best practices in the field, the Center will advance the hopes and dreams of the individuals we serve.
I welcome you on this journey with us, so please consider becoming a part of the Centerâs future.
