How sleepless nights changed more than my sleep!
I have always wished I were a more avid reader. I learned to read at a very young age, but I was never one of those people who read and read. My mom used to read a TON of books, and she had an attic full of Agatha Christie books.
For years, it felt like I only read on vacation. When my children were finally off at college, I started taking a closer look at that part of myself. But even then, I often wouldn’t finish the book or couldn’t find the time.
Then I went through a stretch where I was having trouble falling asleep at night — or I’d wake up and not be able to fall back asleep. Reading became a solution to another problem.
I got a Kindle Unlimited account so I could read at night without disturbing my husband or the dog. The black background and white letters helped, and reading novels or memoirs would calm my mind and help me drift off to sleep.
Then I added another layer: if I get a digital book from the library, I have 3 weeks to finish it, and that keeps me reading.
I also finally found a way to finish nonfiction books — I listen to them while driving.
So in this unexpected way, I became a consistent reader.
My sleep problem led me into reading, and reading became a way to soothe the sleeplessness in the moment. Then homeopathy helped heal the deeper sleep issue — and that experience showed me something I now carry into my work: sometimes what feels like poison in our lives can become part of the medicine.
That’s one of the reasons I care so deeply about helping women who are struggling with hot flashes, night sweats, sleep deprivation, and emotional dysfunction. The right support can change more than you think.
