šŸ‘ Help Give Our OTs a Hand! šŸ‘

Our occupational therapists are an essential part of the Shriners Children’s team. They work one‑on‑one with patients to evaluate skills and create individualized treatment plans that build fine motor skills and promote independence—helping children with everyday activities like dressing, bathing, and self‑care.

Our OTs also fabricate custom splints, recommend adaptive equipment, and collaborate closely with the rest of our care team to achieve meaningful goals for patients and families.
We are incredibly grateful for this dedicated, skilled, and compassionate team.

Happy Occupational Therapy Month! šŸŽ‰

šŸ’› Emilia’s journey is one we’ll never forget šŸ’›

Born in Guatemala, Emilia grew up without care for her condition and spent much of her life walking on club feet. When she came to Shriners Children’s Twin Cities, she had a dream — to walk confidently and independently.

With the help of our incredible prosthetics, physical therapy, interpreters and care teams, Emilia accomplished something she once thought was impossible. Just one year ago, she proudly walked across her high school graduation stage on her new prosthetic legs šŸŽ“

Today, Emilia has graduated from our care and is working, driving, and embracing a bright future. We’re honored to have been part of her story and can’t wait to see what she does next.

March is Athletic Training Month!

At Shriners Children’s Twin Cities, our licensed athletic trainer, Mairead, plays an important role in helping young athletes recover from injuries and safely return to the sports they love.

Mairead's role includes injury assessment, assisting with post-surgical care, guiding rehabilitation exercises, educating families about recovery, and teaching kids how to safely use braces or crutches. She helps reinforce activity guidelines so young athletes heal properly before returning to play.

Our athletic trainer works closely with our sports medicine physician, physical therapists, patients and families to make sure each child’s care plan is coordinated and personalized. She also connects with coaches and school athletic trainers to support a safe and successful recovery both on and off the field.

Athletic trainers are essential members of our sports medicine team — helping young athletes stay healthy, confident and active.

What’s in a lift?

When a kiddo is born with limb length discrepancy, our Pediatric Orthotic and Prosthetic Services (POPS) team can help even the playing field. A small piece of foam is custom shaped and built onto the outside sole of the shoe, making it much easier for the patient to walk.

It's a small modification that makes a big difference!

March is Social Work Month. Our social worker plays a vital role in helping families navigate their care journeys by connecting them with resources, providing emotional support, and helping remove barriers that may impact a child’s health and well-being. This compassion, dedication, and advocacy help ensure every patient receives the support they need both inside and outside the clinic.

Thank you to our social worker, Jennifer, for everything you do!
