Yesterday, I joined The Art of Being a Modern Latina hosted by the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of New Jersey. It was an energizing Women’s History Month event filled with ambitious and inspiring Latina women working to uplift our voices and build a united community.

This past weekend, I exhibited at the Inspirame Latina Summit 2026, an event that left me inspired and more connected to my Latina identity than ever. The Summit brought together proud and authentic Latinas, creating a space where our stories, voices, and truths were celebrated. Thank you, Inspirame Latina Foundation, for welcoming me and allowing me to share my journey with this incredible community.

For Women’s History Month, I’m honoring two trailblazers in reproductive health and mental health: Henrietta Lacks and Jean Baker Miller.

Henrietta Lacks’s immortal HeLa cells—taken without her consent—transformed modern medicine. They helped create the HPV vaccine, improved cervical cancer treatment, and supported in vitro fertilization (IVF). Used in more than 75,000 studies, her cells continue to shape advances in cancer care, gynecology, and reproductive science around the world.

Jean Baker Miller’s work reshaped how we understand women’s emotional lives. Through her book Toward a New Psychology of Women and her Relational Cultural Theory (RCT), she highlighted how connection, empathy, and relationship-building are powerful strengths, especially for women and marginalized groups.

Both women pushed medicine and mental health forward. Their impact fuels my work as a Latina infertility and mental health counselor, expert, speaker, author, and professor. Their legacies remind me why I remain committed to helping women embrace their identity, use their voices, and build spaces of healing and growth—breaking silence, supporting one another, and facing reproductive and emotional challenges together.

As a teen mom, I know how uncomfortable it is to talk about IT....

“the rag”
“the time of the month”
“the period”
“shark week”
“the curse”

As a mom, we want to make it easy and buy a “period kit” for our daughters

But that is only the beginning of a much harder and longer conversation about:

- a women’s private parts
- having s*x
- getting pregnant or not

Now, you may be wondering, but how do I do that, Dr. Anna???

I wrote a book chapter on it and a worksheet to guide you in
How to talk to your daughter so she makes informed decisions to protect her body.

My mission is to help you reclaim the reproductive justice that was taken from you and from me so our daughters have a fighting chance at writing their own reproductive story.

Charlandra was formed from the combination of my twins' names - Charles and Alejandra, who were conceived through infertility treatment. Living with infertility has meant feeling sadness, grief, embarrassment, and shame. I wish I had someone to talk to throughout my infertility journey. Charlandra is here to help and support you on your path through infertility treatments and to parenthood. You are not alone. Charlandra is Hope!

CHARLANDRA is a community resource where you will find support and information to help you navigate infertility treatments successfully. It is our goal to ensure that you are empowered throughout the process and are able to transform your despair to hope.
