22 Things to Do in 2022 to TAKE CHARGE of you...

1. Get 10 - 20 minutes of sun everyday (it's the best source of vitamin D)
2. Cut out food dyes (dyes are bad for you, and there are natural options)
3. Get rid of Tylenol (it reduces glutathione, is the leading cause of liver failure, and can prolong illnesses)
4. Go to bed when you're tired (the dishes will wait another day; your health matters). Ask us about how to use Melatonin and what it can do for you.
5. Stop using sunscreen (and if you need it, avoid sprays, use titanium dioxide or zinc oxide based sunscreens when a hat and long sleeves aren't an option. Tidbit: your skin does not make vitamin D if you wear chemically laden synthetic sunscreen.)
6. Walk outside barefoot and often (grounding can reduce anxiety and support your immune system)
7. Drink more pure water (many of us don't get enough, and water hydrates your body, naturally detoxes you, and can help balance your appetite), distilled, RO and electrolyzed water is best. Ask us what we recommend
8. Avoid sugar (there's no benefit to bleached, white sugar; it's completely devoid of nutrients. Minimize natural sugars, because sugar is addictive and affects your metabolic health)
9. Get off your butt! Be actively active for MORE than 20 minutes a day. Walk to the mail box. Park further from the entrance. Get up from your desk every 50 minutes.
10. Try out probiotic foods, or incorporate them more regularly (they support your immune system, promote gut health, and more)
11. Get rid of Miralax (it has potentially serious side effects, including neurological issues, and covers up an underlying issue. Check into magnesium, natural fiber supplements, and gut healing instead)
12. Just say no to fluoride
13. WAKE THE *HECK* UP! Learn about natural energy and metabolism boosters. Understand that green coffee extract has more phytonutrients than a cup of green tea, and green tea extract has the health benefits equal to 10 cups of green tea without all the trips to the bathroom and caffeine jitters!
14. Learn to say no -- sometimes (help people where you can, but don't violate your own boundaries to do it)
15. CALM THE **BLEEP** DOWN! Discover the benefits of daily supplementation with Ashwghanda, L-theanine, and magnesium.
16. Learn to make a new recipe (find something that you love premade and figure out how to make it yourself - it will be healthier and probably tastier!)
17. Make DIY bone or vegetable broth (incorporate onions, garlic, bay leaves, astragalus root, and mushrooms, for immune support and flavor)
18. Research something new (pick a topic you've always wanted to know about and ask questions and learn more)
19. Question ingredients more. Read labels and google the big words.
20. Banish mainstream body and hygiene products (they contains a lot of ingredients that can cause cancer, skin irritation hormone disruptions, and more).
21. Go makeup free more days (you're beautiful just the way you are, and mainstream makeup contains a lot of unsafe ingredients!)
22. Wild craft herbs from your yard (dandelions are a good place to start; the whole plant is edible and it's good for your liver and rich in vitamins and minerals)

Other mindful things to make 2022 a year to TAKE CHARGE of you; •Write down three things you're grateful for every day before you go to bed. Dwell on those as you fall asleep. •
Stop buying pre-shredded cheese (it is covered in wood pulp and natamycin, an anti-mold chemical) • Say what you mean, and mean what you say (no games in communication; be straight forward and honest about your feelings and boundaries), • Buy loose leaf tea (many tea bags are bleached, and aren't very cost effective. Choose loose leaf, you can even create your own blends!), • Read the Bible daily, Embrace positive thinking as much as you can (we've all been through a lot in the last two years especially; it's time to move on from it all and do better), • try sitting in silence for at least 20min daily. Meditation through silence, prayer, deep breathing, has a multitude of health benefits. •

What would you add? What will you be doing?

Our Xymogen Omega MonoPure supplement features curcumin in it's most bioavailable form. Omega MonoPure Curcumin EC features highly absorbable, patented forms of both monoglyceride fish oil and standardized tumeric extract to offer combined support for cellular health and the modulation of cytokine production. You can swing by the office to pick up a bottle, or place an order in our store!

Dr Chad Walding DPT of Native Path, recently published an easy to follow list of the benefits of Tumeric (active compound being curcumin of course!). We thought it worthy of sharing with our patients.

"Here’s what clinical studies have proven about Turmeric’s other incredible health benefits:

1.) Boosts immunity for virus protection: Turmeric’s antioxidant capacities play a major role in its ability to help the body ward off or suppress viruses that attack the body. It does this by boosting the body’s antioxidant enzymes, effectively providing another counterpunch to free radicals while aiding in the activation of our body’s own antioxidant devices.

2.) Inhibits viral replication: Curcumin suppresses various inflammatory molecules which are responsible for the causes of the damage by viruses. Thanks to it’s antiviral properties, it can ease symptoms as well as the replication of the viral pathogens hence reducing the viral load.

3.) Improves respiration: Bronchial asthma, congestion of nose and airway due to inflammation, cough, cold and occasionally, shortness of breath, affect children, adults, and elderly population. Inflammation constricts the airways and makes it difficult to breathe. This is often related to an exaggerated response by the immune system that leads to chronic inflammation and damage to lung tissue by free radicals. Curcumin inhibits inflammation, relieves congestion and pain and thus improves your breathing.

4.) Counteracts stress: Turmeric is considered to be an adaptogen, which means it has the ability to modulate the release of stress hormones from the adrenal glands. Stress hormones suppress immune function, therefore making us more vulnerable to illness. Including turmeric into your daily diet can help you adapt better to physical and emotional stress and be more resilient to anything that comes your way.

5.) Detoxifies the body: A liver detox, also known as a cleanse, involves the removal of toxins from the blood and the metabolizing of nutrients to ensure our body gets what it needs. Think of the liver as the body’s central filtration system. A healthy liver is paramount to optimal physical and mental health. Several trials have demonstrated curcumin’s ability to limit the damage done to the liver from harmful substances by interrupting inflammatory pathways. Turmeric also stimulates bile production and release from the gallbladder, helping eliminate unwanted waste and toxic pathogens from the body.

6.) Relieves inflammation: For inflammation, studies have shown that curcumin changes immune system responses and blocks enzymes that can cause arthritis inflammation and joint pain. In fact, in the right dose, curcumin may be a more effective anti-inflammatory treatment than common inflammation-fighting medications such as Advil (ibuprofen) and aspirin, according to a past study.

7.) Relieves osteoarthritis symptoms: In a past study, people with osteoarthritis who took a curcumin supplement exhibited significant improvements in stiffness and physical function after eight months, whereas the control group saw no improvements. Another study published in the June 2016 issue of Arthritis Research & Therapy found that oral supplementation of curcumin significantly slowed the progression of osteoarthritis, whereas a topical curcumin treatment provided pain relief.

8.) Heart support: Curcumin has beneficial effects on several factors known to play a role in heart health. One study randomly assigned 121 people, who were undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery, either a placebo or 4 grams of curcumin per day, a few days before and after the surgery. The curcumin group had a 65% decreased risk of experiencing a heart attack in the hospital.

9.) Brain boost: Curcumin boosts levels of the brain hormone BDNF, which increases the growth of new neurons and fights various degenerative processes in your brain. Curcumin can also cross the blood-brain barrier and has been shown to lead to various improvements in the pathological process of Alzheimer’s disease.

10.) Mood elevation: Curcumin appears to have an antidepressant and anxiolytic effect through its ability to modulate levels of serotonin and dopamine (our feel good hormones). Thus, it may be a good complementary treatment for depression. In a study published in the April 2014 issue of Phytotherapy Research, researchers randomly assigned 60 patients with major depressive disorder to one of three groups: one group received daily Prozac, another received curcumin, and a third received a combination of the two. By the end of six weeks, the three groups saw comparable improvements, leading researchers to suggest that curcumin may be a safe and effective treatment for major depressive disorder.

11.) Blood sugar regulation: A study involving subjects with type 2 diabetes published in the July 2019 issue of Nutrition & Metabolism reveals that curcumin supplements helped lower blood insulin levels after 16 weeks. It’s thought that curcumin may help improve blood sugar conditions through its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and improve many of the factors that contribute to diabetes, including insulin resistance, high blood sugar, and hyperlipidemia (a medical term to describe elevated levels of fat in the blood)."
