Today is National Mammography Day — a powerful reminder that early detection saves lives.

Mammograms remain one of the most effective tools for detecting breast cancer early, when it’s most treatable. If you’re due for your annual screening or haven’t scheduled one yet, now is the perfect time to make it a priority.

Early detection is one of the most effective ways to fight breast cancer. Regular screenings can find cancer before symptoms appear—when it’s most treatable.

Here are a few general screening guidelines to keep in mind:

- Talk with your healthcare provider about when to begin screening based on your personal and family history.
- Most women begin annual mammograms around age 40.
- Women at higher risk—such as those with a family history or dense breast tissue—may need to start earlier or add other imaging tests.
- Continue regular screenings as long as you’re in good health.

Knowledge, awareness, and early detection can make all the difference. If you’re due for your screening, now is the perfect time to schedule it.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Did you know that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime?

This month, we’ll be focusing on raising awareness and highlighting the importance of early detection, education, and empowerment in the fight against breast cancer.

While many early-stage breast cancers are found during routine mammograms, it’s important to talk with your healthcare provider if you notice:

• New lumps or thickening in the breast or underarm
• Swelling in part or all of a breast
• Changes in breast skin texture (dimples or puckering)
• Breast or ni**le pain
• Ni**le changes, such as inversion or discharge
• Redness or scaling on the breast or ni**le
• Unusual asymmetry or changes in breast shape or size

Together, through awareness and proactive care, we can make a difference.

Did you know radiation therapy isn’t just for cancer?

Radiation can also be used to treat benign inflammatory conditions—especially when other treatments like anti-inflammatory medications or physical therapy haven’t worked. Because radiation passes directly to the inflamed target area, there are no barriers to getting results.

How it works: Radiation gently breaks down the sensitive white blood cells that release TNF (Tumor Necrosis Factor), the source of inflammation and pain. Treatment is painless, and many patients notice improved mobility and reduced discomfort—even after the first session.

Our specialist, Dr. Hesselgesser, will take time to understand your individual case and recommend a personalized plan to help you feel better. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/3Ke6Qlf

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men, and while not all risk factors can be controlled, knowing them is the first step toward prevention and early detection. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/4gpfnO8

- Age: Risk increases after 50
- Family History: Higher if a father, brother, or son had prostate cancer
- Race: African American men face higher risk
- Lifestyle & Genetics: Diet, obesity, and BRCA1/BRCA2 mutations can play a role

When to Be Tested
Average risk: Begin discussions at age 50
High risk: Start earlier, around 40–45

Screening usually involves a PSA blood test and sometimes a digital re**al exam (DRE). Healthy habits, regular checkups, and open conversations with your doctor all help lower risk and protect your health.
