It's amazing how deeply connected we are to our pets. Did you know that your own stress, anxiety, or deep-seated fears can sometimes be mirrored in your dog or cat's behavior?

When you feel anxious, your pet often picks up on subtle shifts in your body language, tone of voice, and even your scent (thanks to cortisol, the stress hormone!). This can manifest in your pet as:

After Aurora disappeared, her family was heartbroken ๐Ÿฅน

You see Pet Mom's daughter felt guilty. And wondered if she โ€œcould have done more.โ€ ๐Ÿซ‚

Sookieโ€™s person wondered why Sookie could be calm one moment and the next take her frustration out on her partner dog, Dolly.

For Sookie, she was trying to tell her person it was her sensitive hearing or a lack of control over sounds in the house. She revealed, โ€œMost of the time I am in a relaxed state, but when the family makes a change in the โ€˜tone of sound,โ€™ it startles me and I go a little crazy.โ€

โ˜ข๏ธโ˜ข๏ธ Sookieโ€™s humans didnโ€™t realize their short cut of calling out across the rooms to each other startled her out of her peacefulness. When it happened, the other dog, Dolly, paid the price of the familyโ€™s actions.

Their decision to learn Sookieโ€™s viewpoint of the situation made room for changes on the part of the family and a peaceful resolution to the disrupted household.

One of the most common questions I receive is:
..where is my pet now? ๐Ÿฅน

Well let me tell you.

Just recently, I connected with a cat named Aurora, who had disappeared from her familyโ€™s home.

They were heartbroken and drowning in the hardest part of loss:
the not knowing.

When I first connected with Aurora, I felt a sudden lightness.
A sense of release.

She shared with me:
โ€œThere was an attack. A dog got me. It was quick. I am free. I have left my body.โ€

Animals transition differently than we imagine.
๐Ÿ’›They donโ€™t cling.
๐Ÿ’›They donโ€™t fear the unseen.
๐Ÿ’› They slip into the next chapter the way we slip into sleep.

Aurora told me she was surrounded by cat friends, riding clouds, exploring new places - joyful, adventurous, unafraid.

Her message to her family was simple and full of love:
โ€œThank you for sheltering me when I needed it.โ€

Our pets donโ€™t just live beside us.
Their spirits continue in ways we can still feel.

Well let me tell you.

I hear from people who wonder where their petโ€™s misbehavior is coming from.

Animals feel our energy long before they respond to our words.
If weโ€™re inconsistent, grieving, overwhelmed or unsure - they sense it.

And act it out by: Pulling on walks. Barking at other dogs. Refusing commands.

But when I connect with an animal, the message I receive is almost never what the human expects.

Sometimes the behavior is actually masking:
โ€ข fear
โ€ข overstimulation
โ€ข sadness
โ€ข confusion about the householdโ€™s โ€œrulesโ€
โ€ข or a simple need for clearer guidance

And they try to communicate the only way they can.

Many of the pets I speak with say some version of:
โ€œPlease help my human understand me. Iโ€™m trying to tell them what I need.โ€

If youโ€™re seeing unusual or challenging behavior, it may be your petโ€™s way of reaching out - not misbehaving.

Your pet is reflecting you.

๐Ÿ’› A nervous dog often belongs to a human carrying quiet anxiety

๐Ÿ’› A reactive animal may live with someone who feels unsafe or unsettled

๐Ÿ’› A stubborn pet often has a human who struggles with boundaries

๐Ÿ’› A clingy animal may be showing you the places you fear loss

Animals donโ€™t judge us - they simply mirror the energy weโ€™re living in.

They reveal what we havenโ€™t had words for.

They hold up the truth with love.
