I’m going on 2.5 years of solid, daily food tracking. It works for me and my goals. Even when no one is checking it but me.

Food tracking: you either love it or hate it. If you are a hater, read on with an open mind as you may see some real benefits!

Another win at the grocery store shopping the sales. Loaded up on ground turkey and fruit and veggies for the week. If you aren’t using your grocery store’s savings program, you might be missing out. These times call for it. Meal prep has gotten expensive!

I feel my best in the gym. In gym clothes. Dressing up has never been my thing. The only makeup I own is a 2 year old mascara that I probably should throw out. Dressing up this past weekend for the was fun but I didn’t feel like I could just be me because this was a costume. I’m shy. I have a small circle. I didn’t meet a lot of people. But the connections I did make mean so much to me. I am inspired every day by people in the bariatric community. Thanks to those of you who saw past my introversion and spent some time with me. It means a lot.

Last night I crossed the threshold of my 58th revolution around the sun with a group of humans whose friendships span over 40 years. This weekend we reached back in our brains to laugh at things that are still funny all these years later, played trivia games based on memories from college in Connecticut, our years living and visiting each other in NYC, Boston, DC, Baltimore, San Francisco, London, and beyond. Road trips, club nights, concerts, beach life, and adulting. These humble pie punk rock kids never let me down when it comes to having a great time. I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate this huge milestone. My 58th birthday is so important to me because I never thought it would come. My mom died when she was 58 and I was certain that would be my fate, if I made it that far. My mom’s death is a huge part of my why and all these years later I finally beat her record. I am wrapping up my stay at the amazing Madonna Inn, grateful for the time well spent with friends, recharged by the sea, and uplifted by the laughter and tears. Thank you Anita for planning your 59 1/2 birthday, for being my forever maid of honor, and for taking us to this kitchy palace. Thanks McCoy, Mel, Maroon, and Lynette for this amazing celebration. Love you guys!

I cringe a little with the idea of posting these but here goes. These are my progress pictures from May to December. There is a 2 pound difference between these pictures. This is what body recomposition looks like. It’s a work in progress. My goal is to continue to build strength and preserve my muscle mass while losing body fat. What I have been focused on in these last 6+ months is not weight loss. It’s been about pushing myself in the gym, staying consistent with workouts, hitting a step goal, keeping my nutrition solid, hitting my macro goals, and getting enough rest and recovery to support all of these habits. The scale is only one indicator of progress. I sometimes struggle to see the changes. I still see myself 100 pounds heavier some days. But I know that all the work that has gone into this 8+ year journey is getting the job done. The work never ends. Even in the dark days of winter, the holidays, when I don’t feel like doing the work - I do it anyways. Not every workout feels amazing, but I have never regretted doing the work. On most days I am excited to do it. Challenging myself and my beliefs has been hard work and I have definitely had help along the way. Thanks to my peeps for cheering me on this past year! .second.act - you are all my motivation! Let’s go!

I’m back from San Diego with a lot on my minds. Reflecting on ’s Bariatric Retreat today. I met so many amazing people, learned a lot both in and out of sessions, and I am now taking time to absorb my observations and emotions. Key word: authenticity. Stay tuned. Keep it real.

My recipe for a great night’s sleep. I’ve been struggling with sleep on and off for a few months. Thanks to Kim from for the tip on adding Magnesium glycinate into my nighttime wind down. I’m a fan of Thorne products and use their creatine as well. Adding this little tea has made a big difference in both the quality and quantity of sleep I am getting. My habits are all dialed in. Now my body and brain can cooperate. Nighty night.

Eight years ago, I checked into Mercy San Juan Hospital and changed my life forever. It’s been a wild ride, full of ups and downs, but it’s never been easy. My life is full of repeated daily habits that happen whether I am at home or traveling, that require careful planning and ex*****on, and require my full attention. When I lose my focus, I see it on the scale, in the mirror, and I feel it in my body and soul. So when I am dialed in, I am all in. Since November, I have been working with to get my nutrition dialed in to support my active life as a trainer and business owner. Since May, I have been part of summer camp to get my workout and mindset mojo back. This 8th surgiversary, I am not celebrating a number on the scale. I am celebrating the feeling of getting stronger, feeling more energized, and celebrating meeting a community of like-minded Bariatric patients who understand this journey. I’m learning to set boundaries (and stick to them) and push myself harder than I ever have. I’ve had some amazing support from family and friends and clients and members, but only I can do the work. Celebrating 8 years Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass 7/5/2016. 🎉🎉🎉🐝🐝🐝💪💪💪✨✨✨
