We are still dreaming of all the delicious treats we made with our kiddos for the 4th of July this month! Such a great opportunity to practice our fine motor skills, bilateral coordination, and more to help us complete the occupation of cooking. We also played food theme games while on our horses. Can’t wait to see what else we will make this summer!

Our occupational therapy team brought a touch of the islands to the barn! Through Hawaii-themed therapeutic activities incorporating equine movement, participants engaged in sensory-rich experiences, developed motor skills, and most importantly, had FUN.

Mahalo to our level II fieldwork occupational therapy student, Caitlyn Nakagawa from Oʻahu, for thoughtfully creating and leading this theme!

Starting the day with a little sunshine and a lot of heart 🌞🐴 Our dedicated volunteer leads one of our horses out to the turnout where fresh air, open space, and freedom await. These quiet moments remind us how powerful simple acts of care can be. 💛

Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with some lucky strides! Our OT sessions at the horse barn were filled with fun and purpose. We targeted coordination, tactile processing, fine motor skills, emotional regulation and sensory integration through therapeutic activities with the inclusion of horses.

Woodland Strides hosted its second joint event with Wounded Warrior Project yesterday. We had 4 veterans come out to participate in various activities with our horses. They groomed, learned how to lead a horse through obstacle courses, and learned more about horse behavior. Two of our therapists volunteered at the event. We hope to host this again over the summer.

Today, Woodland Strides hosted its first event with Wounded Warrior Project. One of Highest Potential Therapy’s occupational therapists, Sarah Moore, volunteered at the event. Veterans came and participated in a grooming activity, lead a horse through the obstacle course (pictured below) and participated in a team work horse activity. It was a fantastic day and we are looking forward to more veterans events in the future!
