🚨 Action Alert

The Major Richard Star Act would allow combat-disabled retirees to receive both their full retired pay and their VA disability compensation.

For thousands of families, that would mean stability instead of lifelong financial strain. When service creates the burden, our nation has a responsibility to fix it.

Tell Congress to pass the Major Richard Star Act. Take action here 👉 https://votervoice.net/VFW/Campaigns/132821/Respond

Behind every policy is a veteran, service member, survivor and a family.

We’re gathering your stories to show Congress how policies tied to the Major Richard Star Act impact real veterans and families.

Today, we remember the signing of the Paris Peace Accords, which marked the end of direct U.S. military involvement in the Vietnam War. For the surviving Vietnam Veterans, it began a long journey home, often without the recognition they deserved. Let us honor their courage, resilience, and brotherhood as we reflect on the human cost of war and our duty to ensure every Veteran is remembered.

Today is Holocaust Remembrance Day.

January 27, 2026 is the 81st anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. This is the "time to remember the 6 million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and the millions of other victims of N**i persecution," writes the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The statement continues, "At the Museum and other commemoration sites, we remember Holocaust victims by reading their names, by lighting candles, and by learning about the Holocaust. All of us can mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day by sharing the truth of the Holocaust and by confronting antisemitism and hate in our daily lives."

More than 16 million Americans fought in World War II; approximately 250,000 lost their lives while serving in Europe. American soldiers liberated hundreds of N**i concentration and internment camps across Europe, including Dachau, Ohrdruf, Mauthausen and Buchenwald.

Today we remember the victims of the Holocaust and join those liberated from Buchenwald in saying, "Never again."

On behalf of the Department of Washington, we extend our heartfelt Christmas greetings to our Comrades, Brothers, Sisters, Supporters, and to every member of the veteran family we are honored to serve.

We also extend warm wishes to those observing other faiths and traditions during this season, honoring the diverse beliefs that strengthen our communities and our shared commitment to service and compassion.

Christmas invites us to pause, gather close, and reflect on what truly binds us together. Across our Posts and communities, that bond is found in fellowship, shared purpose, and a deep respect for service. It is what makes this organization a family.

This season reminds us of the values we live every day: service before self, loyalty to one another, and care for those who have borne the weight of military service. Through your advocacy, volunteer hours, leadership, and quiet acts of kindness, you have made a lasting difference for veterans and families across Washington.

As we look toward the New Year, we do so with steady optimism and purpose. A new year brings fresh opportunities to strengthen our Posts, welcome new members, and reach veterans who may not yet know they have a place here.

We pause to honor those serving in uniform today, especially those spending the holidays far from home. We also hold our Gold Star families close in our thoughts. Your sacrifice is never forgotten, and your VFW family stands beside you.

From our Department leadership team, we wish you peace, warmth, and time well spent with those you love, now and in the year ahead.
