The female body is truly INCREDIBLE π€ππ½
The power of a female body
A recent client who attended the exclusive one on one class has given permission for Midwifeonline.com.au to share her birth story - we love a good birth story!
Hereβs her story:
ββ¦I had done so much research & preparation for my birth & decided that I wanted an un-medicated hospital birth. My labour started as I expected, I began to feel some regular abdominal discomfort & decided to head out for a walk on the beach with my husband. I knew from class that this part of labour could last for a while so distraction was my best bet for an un-medicated birth! I tried to go for a swim in the ocean but soon realised that I needed and wanted to be at home. I laboured at home for around 6 hours, predominantly using the shower for relief.
The time between contractions was so surreal, having to breathe through a contraction & then just being completely normal was something I was not expecting!β Then I felt a change, I knew that I wanted to be somewhere else, I knew that I needed to be somewhere else. Dave called the hospital & off we went. When I got to the hospital the midwife said that I was only 5cm β I thought for sure that I was about to have this baby! I knew from class that I needed to regroup & get back into the zone. I started to use the shower again, having the water on my lower back was sensational, the hospital midwives where amazing just letting me be in the shower with the only interruption being listening to my baby, but that was soothing in itself.
Transition was tough but we had learnt in class the importance of birth support β Dave was amazing. I thought I was prepared for the power of labour & intensity of labour β the female body is just incredible. Dave kept reminding me that this was normal & body was just trying to slow the contractions down so I could help push her through the birth canal, when the time came the pressure was forceful & she was out in 3 pushes! I discovered after birth that I had only been in the hospital for a 3 hours before I needed to push β it felt so much longer! I had lost all concept of time. Baby Harper was born at 3:24am on 17th November 2022β¦β
