💙 Developmental Disability Awareness Month 💙
March is a time to increase understanding, promote inclusion, and celebrate the abilities of individuals with developmental disabilities.
A developmental disability is a condition that begins during the developmental period (before age 22) and can impact physical, learning, language, or behavioral areas. These disabilities are lifelong and may affect day-to-day functioning in different ways.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 1 in 6 children in the United States has one or more developmental disabilities. These can include conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities, and other developmental delays.
Developmental disabilities do not define a person’s potential. With the right supports, opportunities, and inclusive communities, individuals with developmental disabilities live meaningful, productive, and fulfilling lives.
This month, we encourage everyone to:
✔️ Learn more
✔️ Promote respectful language
✔️ Support inclusive workplaces and communities
✔️ Celebrate abilities, not limitations
Together, we can build communities where everyone belongs.
