So starting off with the good news - gorgeous day for a run, and the end result of Sunday’s debacle was that a big group of us runners were given 100 mile qualifiers, comped entry to next year’s 50, and offered a refund (I did not take the refund because I know the money goes to a good cause and for the course I ran, the aid stations were amazing and the staff were great).

The bad news - I only ran 38 miles and change. Unfortunately, when the course had to be changed because of landowner access issues, the mileage for aid stations and cutoff times were not adjusted. So an aid station that was supposed to be at 34.5 miles was at 39. 10 of us complained (don’t know about the other groups of runners pulled). The race officials were amazing, and Mike Silverman was so kind and apologetic.

I was on track to finish with plenty of time to spare, and didn’t get lost this time! Ugh.

Such a bummer.

I feel so deflated and disappointed.

July miles and lots of memories!

So many highlights!

⭐️ Running with my brother in Australia
⭐️ Challenging myself with vert and altitude in the Blue Mountains, NSW
⭐️ Running in Manly, in Sydney, Australia - views! Hanging swamps! Beaches!
⭐️ Running with someone I trained for a 10k from a different continent

Kept the running streak alive on my travels with an airport run, a couple of night time runs, and a hotel treadmill. Got thrown for a loop by jet lag making me feel like I was running through mud when I got back to the states 😜

Ran my favorite half marathon in June, the 🏅

Ran/walked/sprinted in various order with my at the 5k celebration 🦄 (average pace 16:30, best pace 6:41)😂

Made it through the heatwave 🥵☀️

This is a fascinating article about shorter run training and bone adaptation.

Anecdotally, I felt better throughout my second 50 mile race, and recovered much quicker as well, despite not having back to back long runs, and shorter long runs than the first time I ran that distance. Would love to see more research into this!

Bones are made of dynamic tissues that need stress, just not too much, says one of the world's best ultrarunners.

Monthly miles for January ❄️🏃‍♀️

This month I returned to playing tennis after a month off due to tennis elbow, AND I started learning to ski! At age 45! Still getting my run done every day - short and fast on the treadmill, and outside as often as possible.

Settling into my pace outdoors and feeling my lungs working, my muscles warming up, and hearing my feet making their rhythm is the best. There’s something about being warm and sweaty when you’re out in freezing temperatures that feels so good!
