Lately, Iโve come across research on something called ๐๐๐๐ (๐๐ฑ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ถ๐น๐ฑ๐ต๐ผ๐ผ๐ฑ ๐๐
๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ๐)โhow childhood trauma can impact a personโs ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฎ๐น, ๐ฒ๐บ๐ผ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐น, ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ป ๐ฝ๐ต๐๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐น health for life.
Trauma doesnโt just live in memory; ๐ถ๐ ๐ฒ๐บ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ ๐ถ๐๐๐ฒ๐น๐ณ ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฏ๐ผ๐ฑ๐.
As Iโve been processing this, I started thinking through stories in Scripture, looking at ๐๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐ฝ๐ต, ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ถ๐ฒ๐น, ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ ๐๐ฒ๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ ๐ฐ๐ต๐ถ๐น๐ฑ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ป through this lens. These were people who endured ๐บ๐ฎ๐ท๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐บ๐ฎ as young men, but Scripture doesnโt really tell us how it affected them internally.
Joseph was betrayed, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and forgotten in prison.
โ
Daniel was kidnapped as a teenager, forced to serve a pagan king, and thrown into a den of lions.
โ
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were stripped of their names, identities, and homeโthen sentenced to death by fire.
But what we ๐ฅ๐ฐ๐ฏโ๐ต see is their ๐ถ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ป๐ฎ๐น ๐๐๐ฟ๐๐ด๐ด๐น๐ฒ. We're not privy (for various reasons) to the internal dialogue that plays out in their minds.
โ Did Joseph have ๐ป๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐๐บ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ about his brothers throwing him into a pit?
โ Did Daniel ever break down, ๐ด๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด the home and family heโd never see again?
โ Did the three young men ๐ณ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐น ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ป๐ถ๐ฐ rise in their throats as they stood before the fiery furnace?
Scripture doesnโt say.
Do people of faith handle trauma by just pushing it down and ignoring it, or does their story become more incredible because they were impacted in HUGE ways, yet God used them in spite of their struggles?
Because the Bible is often ๐๐ถ๐น๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ถ๐ฟ ๐ฒ๐บ๐ผ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐น ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป, many people assume they ๐ฅ๐ช๐ฅ๐ฏโ๐ต struggleโthat their faith shielded them from fear, trauma, or doubt. This assumption can lead to harmful messages:
You just have to trust God like Joseph did!โ
If Daniel could thrive in Babylon, why canโt you?โ
Look at how strong Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego wereโwhy are you still struggling?
Trauma doesnโt vanish because we believe. The body remembers. The heart aches. The mind wrestles.
Just because Josephโs tears arenโt recorded doesnโt mean he never wept. Just because Danielโs anxiety isnโt mentioned doesnโt mean he never felt it.
๐ฌ ๐๐ป๐๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฑ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด,โJust have more faith,โ
Your pain is real, and God wants to meet you in it.
๐ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐, โLetโs talk truthfully about how suffering shapes usโand how healing is a journey.
You should be like Daniel,โ
You are not alone in your struggle, and God does not expect you to heal overnight.
Scriptureโs silence doesnโt mean suffering wasnโt felt. And if ๐๐ฒ๐๐๐ ๐๐ถ๐บ๐๐ฒ๐น๐ณ ๐๐ฒ๐ฝ๐, sweat blood, and cried out in agony, then surely ๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐๐๐ฟ๐๐ด๐ด๐น๐ฒ๐ ๐บ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐๐ผ๐ผ.
God does not rush your healing.
๐ You donโt have to be "okayโ to be faithful.
You are seen, known, and lovedโright where you are.
