New Moon in Sagittarius near Venus. Mars is at the other side in Capricorn.

In the context of Persian miniature art and classical Islamic astronomy (the Aja'ib al-Makhluqat or "Wonders of Creation" tradition), celestial bodies are often personified.

In this image, the figure sitting within the crescent is likely intended to represent the Moon (al-Qamar) itself, personified as a graceful figure. However, in traditional iconography, Venus (Zuhrah) is also famously depicted as a beautiful young woman, often a musician playing a lute (ud).
