Woodward Academy Woodward Academy strives to provide a safe and structured environment for our clients. Woodward Academy also offers a non-residential program, the Day School.

Woodward Academy is a residential treatment program that delivers trauma-informed treatment services to youth between the ages of 12-18. The Day School serves male and female students from the greater Des Moines and surrounding areas who are struggling in the public school setting. Our programs are aimed at redirecting delinquent, negative behaviors to positive, socially acceptable patterns.

Our varsity Esports team wrapped up their season last night, we started out the state tournament with a first round loss but fought back to get into the third-place playoff. Unfortunately we didn’t come out on top in that match and placed 4th. We are so unbelievably proud of all that our boys accomplished and the obstacles they overcame this season to get to where they did.

This varsity team had the first postseason win in school history. We look forward to see what they will accomplish during our winter season.

Coach Clouse always tells the team, “I don’t expect people to understand what we do, but I do expect people to understand that we work hard.” And this team is a perfect testament to that. Congratulations on an awesome season!🥹🎮

Today was November’s monthly assembly! Expedition was in charge and we played “Hit the Turkey!” where our program directors tried not to get hit by dodgeballs! Triumph Hall won and there was loads of laughs and smiles!🦃☄️

In November, we are celebrating Christopher Levi as our Sanctuary Champion of the Month. Christopher is the lead day school teacher here at Woodward Academy and he, along with his team, supports our youth with complex needs who need educational support. As he and his team have implemented the Sanctuary Model in our school setting, Christopher believes that the framework has made the program a "safer and more supportive place" for both staff and students. The result has been that our students are making connections and our staff are creating an environment where students can succeed both academically and by encouraging more pro-social behaviors.

Christopher believes that the Sanctuary Model has successfully integrated with our educational program effectively in two exciting ways - first, by helping teachers and paraprofessionals support one another in trauma-responsive way, and second by strengthening the ability to teach and care for students by responding with empathy and understanding - which ultimately builds trust. In addition to normal curriculum, Christopher routinely teaches his students Sanctuary curriculum to treat them as "adults-in-training".

Today was a very special day on Woodward Academy’s campus. We inducted our 21st Lifetime Executive Knight into our hall of fame.

Anthony from Navigator Hall has been the glue to their Knights Club the duration of his stay, a Student Government member, graduated high school, has become a trusted member of Mr. Hageman’s campus workers and built relationships within the community during community service outings. He has focused his program on the growth and change of himself and his peers across campus. We are grateful for his impact and unwavering determination to become the best version of himself. Our JV Esports team wrapped up their season last night. From the highs of victory to the lessons in defeat, this season has been nothing short of unforgettable. We grew, we battled, and we left it all on the stage. Huge thanks to our fans, teammates, and everyone who stood behind us—your support made every moment possible.

Woodward Academy

Woodward Academy a Joint Commission (JCAHO) accredited program opened on the campus of the Woodward Resource Center on July 10, 1995. Today, Woodward Academy is a 248 bed residential treatment program for male youth. Woodward Academy offers three different residential programs ranging from 90 days to 18 months working with students from 12 to 18 years of age. Woodward Academy also offers one non-residential program, the Day School. The Day School serves male and female students from the greater Des Moines and surrounding areas who are struggling in the public school setting.

Our programs are aimed at redirecting delinquent, negative behaviors to positive, socially acceptable patterns. Woodward's treatment philosophy focuses on behavioral and cognitive change through the establishment of a normative culture using the sociological and cognitive behavioral model as well as offender specific treatment services.
