Woodward Academy Woodward Academy strives to provide a safe and structured environment for our clients. Woodward Academy also offers a non-residential program, the Day School.

Woodward Academy is a residential treatment program that delivers trauma-informed treatment services to youth between the ages of 12-18. The Day School serves male and female students from the greater Des Moines and surrounding areas who are struggling in the public school setting. Our programs are aimed at redirecting delinquent, negative behaviors to positive, socially acceptable patterns.

This week, our runners showed up with grit, heart, and serious speed! Proud of the effort, the energy, and the miles that made it happen. We had nine of our eleven runners PR this week! 🏃🏽

Special shout-outs to Jeziah, who led our pack and beat his PR by over a minute! He came in 20th place out of 136 runners! 🏅

Jacob and Charleston PR’d in both our meets this week, they each cut over a minute off their time! 💪🏼

Other shout outs go to Aiden, Tristin, Jamel, Ban, Benny and Kyler who all PR’d as well!

This week, our Boys Council completed their final session and got to celebrate with homemade tacos for lunch! 🌮

What is "The Council"? — It is a weekly group designed specifically for boys and young men!
Over the course of three months, participants took part in hands-on crafts, games, and meaningful discussions in a safe, supportive space.
The Council is a structured, action-oriented program that helps boys:
✅ Build confidence and healthy peer connections
✅ Explore emotions and self-expression
✅ Challenge stereotypes about what it means to be a “real boy” or “real man”
✅ Develop emotional, social, and cultural literacy
✅ Learn positive ways to handle challenges in today’s world
🌟 Weekly themes include:

Male & Female Roles and Expectations
Managing Violence in the Community

Woodward Academy a Joint Commission (JCAHO) accredited program opened on the campus of the Woodward Resource Center on July 10, 1995. Today, Woodward Academy is a 248 bed residential treatment program for male youth. Woodward Academy offers three different residential programs ranging from 90 days to 18 months working with students from 12 to 18 years of age. Woodward Academy also offers one non-residential program, the Day School. The Day School serves male and female students from the greater Des Moines and surrounding areas who are struggling in the public school setting.

Our programs are aimed at redirecting delinquent, negative behaviors to positive, socially acceptable patterns. Woodward's treatment philosophy focuses on behavioral and cognitive change through the establishment of a normative culture using the sociological and cognitive behavioral model as well as offender specific treatment services.
