Dr. Safa Wagdi, MD recently closed his well regarded private practice on Broad St in Central Falls. His office closing was very sudden due to an unexpected health issue. Follow the "20-20-20 rule" when using digital devices: Every 20 minutes, look away from your screen and allow your eyes to focus on a distant object (at least 20 feet away) for 20 seconds or longer. This reduces fatigue that may trigger eye twitching.

Due to wearing masks we have seen an increase in Styes this year.
A stye is an infection in the eyelid that causes a tender, red bump near the edge of the lid.
When oil glands or hair follicles get clogged by breathing into your mask, makeup, dead skin or dirt, bacteria can get trapped inside and cause an infection. Many styes resolve with warm compress after a few days. If this does not solve the problem call our office to have the infection treated with antibiotics.

Fear of side effects, including how it may affect vision, ranks as the primary reason that some Americans remain hesitant to be vaccinated against the virus that causes COVID-19. However, no evidence has surfaced yet that any widespread side effects from the vaccines are related to vision.

It’s worth noting, though, that at least one isolated incident of an eye-related side effect has been reported — a health care worker in Alaska who experienced eye puffiness after getting a COVID-19 shot. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is investigating this among other rare allergic reactions to the coronavirus vaccine produced by Pfizer and BioNTech.

Due to increased screen time in children myopia is on the rise. One of the hot topics in eye care is limiting myopia progression. There are a few options available to parents that are interesting in this topic. In addition to pharmaceutical intervention we are now excited to offer the MiSight® 1 day contact lens as an option. The MiSight lenses are clinically proven to slow the progression of myopia when initially prescribed for children 8-12 years old*. Please schedule an appointment with one of our doctors if this is something you feel your child may benefit from.

We know that many of you are just now starting to venture back out into the world. We look forward to seeing you and want to assure you we are adhering to all federal, state and local health directives regarding infection prevention measures and implementing appropriate safety procedures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission within the office. These not only include strict protocols for cleaning and sterilization, but measures to effectively manage patient flow and encourage physical distancing. Some of the new procedures patients can anticipate include screening for symptoms of COVID-19 and taking patients' temperature upon their arrival at the facility, limiting the number of guests allowed in waiting rooms and requiring everyone to wear a facemask and/or gloves before entering the office.
