As a fair number of the patients that I see are immunocompromised, I am feeling a need to share a bit of personal information. If you spend any time at all outdoors in South Dakota....WEAR BUG SPRAY!!! I have been sick for the past couple of weeks. (High fever, headache 10 times worse than the worst migraine I have ever had, dizziness, muscle weakness, brain fog & horrible, horrible fatigue.) I got some test results back today, and I am positive for West Nile. I am getting better. I haven't run a high fever in over a week. But I still get tired pretty easy, and if I push it too much that dang headache comes back. 80% of people contracting West Nile don't show any symptoms; the 20% who do have symptoms can get very ill, and it can even lead to death.

Of course, I'm not exactly sure where I got it. Beadle County has had positive West Nile in their traps, so not too far of a venture to think positive mosquitos have ventured into Sanborn County as well. Hughes County has also had positive mosquitos and we were camping out there 2 weeks ago (although the mosquitos in the State Park weren't bad at all.)

I am case number 8 in South Dakota this year.....and of those 8, one person has died. All of the rain has resulted in a copious crop of those blood suckers....they are everywhere here at home. Please be safe!

Thank you to all the patients who are getting certified for their medical cannabis cards. We have reached a 3 year high for patient numbers 🎉 This is amazing news as the program continues to grow it makes our community stronger. When the 2026 legislative session rolls around I hope to see this number closer to 20k there is power in numbers which helps protect the program from mislead legislation and attempts to shut it down completely. If 2025, taught us anything with the attempted to repeal of IM26 in its entirety, it is we need a strong community to continue to have this program thrive.

Tell your friends, family & loved ones that getting their card is the best way to support the programs growth & protect them from unnecessary legal consequences.
