โ€ขTestimony Tuesdayโ€ข

I have so much gratitude toward Dr. Marcanthony, Bloomington Women's Care, and the staff at Wooster Community Hospital Womanโ€™s Pavilion.

Dr. Marcanthony was a huge support and biggest hype person as we struggled through years of infertility. Her and the staff at Bloomington Womenโ€™s Care went above and beyond to support me through monitoring as I went through IVF treatment in New York. Finally December 2020, I got a positive pregnancy test from my fourth transfer resulting in our twin boys in July 2021. Throughout my entire pregnancy I was treated with the best care. Due to baby B being breached, I had a c-section. Dr. Marcanthony performed the procedure super quick without any issues. Recovery was easy with the caring staff at the womenโ€™s pavilion. In addition to medical care, they were great support navigating being a new mother and with the emotions of having a baby in the special care nursery.

Iโ€™ll never forget Dr. Marcanthony visiting me post delivery telling me I saved my babyโ€™s life but really it was the amazing care of everyone at Bloomington Womenโ€™s Care and the Womenโ€™s Pavilion. Thank you for our greatest gifts, Owen Thomas, Ryan Andrew and Kellen James ๐Ÿ’™ ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™

If youโ€™d like to be featured in our testimony Tuesday series, please send us a message sharing your experience & a few pictures. Whether we cared for you recently, or long ago, weโ€™d LOVE to hear from you!

โ€ขTestimony Tuesday โ€ข

We welcomed our first son, Kayson William, into the world on May 4, 2024 at the Womenโ€™s Pavilion with Lindsay Collins as our midwife. My plans were to have an unmedicated vaginal birth.

Delivery went good with no complications. I labored unmedicated at 7-8cm for 7 hours and then after pushing for 2 hours our baby boy finally arrived! So painful but so worth it!

I am so grateful for my nurse, Allison. With this being my first childbirth experience, I didnโ€™t know what to expect. She coached me through breathing & pushing, showed my husband counter pressure techniques, and helped me switch positions to get comfortable. I was able to walk around freely and use a birthing ball and the shower while working through contractions. When I was exhausted and almost at my breaking point, Lindsay and the nurses encouraged me to keep going. They really listened to my wishes about my birth plan and I felt so supported during labor, delivery, and post delivery.

Carman & Sydney were my postpartum nurses and were very helpful in showing us how to care for our newborn and help me through the healing process. They are very nurturing!

Iโ€™m so grateful for our experience with the womenโ€™s pavilion. They went above and beyond to make our experience a beautiful one.

If youโ€™d like to be featured in our testimony Tuesday series, please send us a message sharing your experience & a few pictures. Whether we cared for you recently, or long ago, weโ€™d LOVE to hear from you!

โ€ข Fun factโ€ฆ May babies are lucky! A study conducted in the U.K showed that this month is the luckiest month to be born. This may have something to do with optimism that comes with the month of May because a positive attitude is associated with greater flexibility.

The Wooster Community Hospital Womenโ€™s Pavilion has the capability to store donated human milk, which will then be transferred to the OhioHealth Mothersโ€™ Milk Bank in Columbus at no cost to the donor. This exciting initiative was pursued and brought to you by the WCH Lactation Team.

We identified a need in our community for this service. There are no other milk drops close by causing an inconvenience to donors, or potential donors. This service allows us to provide a safe and trouble-free way for nursing mothers to share their milk with medically fragile infants that can benefit from human milk until their own Mother's milk is available to them.

To become a human milk donor, mothers must take part in a screening process to ensure the quality and safety of their milk.

This process includes...
โ€ข Phone screening to verify eligibility
โ€ข Completion of a medical and lifestyle history review
โ€ข Signed medical release from the donor and physician and consent to receive a blood test to screening

Interested donors can either email the Ohio Mothersโ€™ Milk Bank - [email protected] or call (614)566-0630 to arrange a screening phone interview

โ€ขTestimony Tuesdayโ€ข

This was my first delivery with WCH Womenโ€™s Pavilion but our second daughter. From the moment we arrived for our induction on 4/15/24, we were greeted with kindness and excitement as we were about to add another beautiful baby to our family.

I had the pleasure of having nurse Danielle that day and let me tell you, I honestly donโ€™t think the day would have gone in such a positive manner if it werenโ€™t for her. She kept me focused on having my daughter that day and no matter what happened she was a ray of sunshine cheering me on.

I wanted to labor as long as possible before getting an epidural and Iโ€™d like to say I lasted longer than I did with my first, but nonetheless, Danielle was right there supporting my every decision. She kept me calm during my epidural, she remained positive when I was making slow progress with dilation, and she laughed with me when I woke up soaked in colostrum because I was lactating and I thought my IV was leaking.

When it was time to push, she coached me through each contraction and cheered me on. Jessie Costa and Laura the other nurse were phenomenal! I was cleaned up, stitched up, and shuffling my baby girl after 11 short minutes of pushing and about 8 hours of labor!

This was honestly the best experience we could have asked for!! We loved all the staff we worked with those two days and are grateful for them!

Our daughter Sage Magnolia is the perfect addition to our family and we were so excited to share her with the staff at WCH womenโ€™s pavilion!

Maternal mental health is the range of feelings you can have during and after pregnancy. Pregnancy and the postpartum period (time after delivery) can bring on lots of strong emotions, and some may feel:
โ€ขOverwhelmed
โ€ขSad
โ€ขWorried
โ€ขExhausted
โ€ขConcerned they arenโ€™t good enough as a mom

For many individuals, these feelings go away on their own. But, for some, these emotions are more serious and may stay for months.

This was my 3rd natural birth completed at WCH women's pavilion with Bloomington Women's Care

Dr. MarcAnthony delivered my first 2 boys--I delivered quickly after arriving to the hospital-- so this was my first birth "experience" at the hospital due to the extra time with my water breaking...

At 41 weeks on a Sunday, my water broke at home around 3:30 in the afternoon (a very minimal amount so I wasn't sure if this was "it") , I called and spoke to CNM Kelly who wanted me to come in and confirm that the water had broken even though contractions had not started due to the quickness of my previous births. Nurses Abbey and Carmen (and student nurses) checked me in and did an amazing job of setting up a home birth atmosphere within the hospital room. Candles, projecting lights, a birth pool and other cushions/balls were all set up. I additionally had brought a TENS unit, essential oils and bluetooth speaker along. As with my previous labors, my preference was for intermittent doppler monitoring and saline lock to be the only interventions.

With permission from my birth team I did start my TENS unit to alleviate a low constant backache I had been having all day.
Around 9 Dr. Marcanthony broke the rest of my waters but it was lightly tinted with meconium. After discussing my birth preferences and reviewing policies Nurse Adrianna and Dr. MarcAnthony agreed I could continue with the plan for the birth pool but I would need to be on a continuous fetal monitor. Thankfully there was a bluetooth option that allowed me full freedom of movement. Dr. MarcAnthony prayed with us before leaving. Kelly then arrived and we discussed my desire to not use pitocin and ways to get contractions going naturally, thankfully they started on their own not long after our conversation.

Due to the speed of my previous births I requested the pool be filled immediately. This was my first birth with a pool and it was AMAZING for pain control. The pool was soft and allowed for easy repositioning, floating of my belly and movement of my legs. My contractions quickly sped up but laboring in the pool made them very manageable and comfortable.

Once pressure began to intensify I got out into the bed with plans to use the squat bar to push. Transition into pushing was a very frustrating process this labor as it felt "wrong" and I never had a strong urge to push. It was very hard not to "fight" the labor during this time, where my other 2 births were much easier to breathe baby down. Kelly was very reassuring throughout and Adrianna also assisted me in positioning. Just before 1am our sweet boy arrived sunny side up... this explained the struggle!

Unfortunately, I hemorrhaged following this delivery. I was beyond thankful to be in a hospital setting for this reason as the entire team went to work. Though everything is a bit blurry for the next few hours, I know that God surrounded me with an amazing and capable team that acted swiftly and efficiently as they are all trained to do.

Dr. Marcanthony, Midwife Kelly and WCH women's pavilion allowed me to have 3 wonderful "home birth experiences" that I desired within the safety net of a hospital.

โ€ขTestimony Tuesdayโ€ข

On Saturday, August 5, 2023, we arrived at the hospital at 8:30am after Iโ€™d been having contractions since 2am. After all the initial checks and monitoring, I was a little surprised I was only 3cm dilated. I got into the tub at 9:30am, as I was planning an all natural, unmedicated birth and knew I wanted to labor in the water. The tub was so relaxing that I was able to rest and almost fall asleep between contractions. I labored in the tub until shortly after 11am when I was checked again and was 7cm. At that point, contractions were becoming extremely strong and close together, and I knew once I was out of the tub that I didnโ€™t want to get back in. I labored on the side of the bed and my amazing midwife, Lindsay Collins, came in and helped me through contractions, along with my husband and many nurses. Soon after my water broke on its own and I was fully dilated. At 11:51am, our beautiful daughter, Charli Rae was born!

I am so thankful that my midwife Lindsay was on call that weekend to deliver. She really listened to my wishes about my birth plan, and I felt so supported by her during labor, delivery, and post delivery. It was an answered prayer that she delivered my baby girl! My main nurse, Danielle, that we had both days was also so amazing, along with every single other nurse. It was a slow morning at the hospital, with not many other patients there, so I had a room full of nurses at delivery, and all were so pleasant and caring. Iโ€™m so grateful for everyone at Womenโ€™s Pavilion and look back on my experience with absolute joy!
