2026: Hope, Salmon and Snowstorms

Take time. Slow down. Sometimes things are simply out of our control—and that’s ok. The recent snowstorm and stretch of cold temperatures were a great reminder that while we can be prepared for events in life, we can also be prepared to go with the flow. Activities may be cancelled; events you might have been looking forward to perhaps didn’t pan out as expected, but sometimes there is this forced “rest” that comes into play during these moments. Instead of fighting against the snow or flow of a river, sometimes we need to pause, remove ourselves, or choose to go with the flow. There are times to go against the current (like the salmon in Alaska), and there are times to get in the innertube and float with the flow of life. We can lean into our resilience and stand in hope to get us through the snowiest or darkest days.
Winter seasons can be unpredictable in Ohio, but what we can count on is just that, the unpredictability. Let this be our reminder to be kind to ourselves. If we had big hopes and dreams for the first month—or even the first couple of months—of the year, we can revisit those intentions and begin again. We can stand in our resilience, find new paths and routes if we derail or if we are placed in a pause at the moment. We have hope for a new day; we have hope for sunshine, trying again, revisiting goals and discovering new opportunities.
The New York Times posted an article on what gives teens hope in 2026. One person shared that they hoped for “technological advances, seeing people care for one another, watching their generation work to create a better society.” Another wrote “This may seem a bit vanilla, but my biggest hope for 2026 is that I could at least learn how to keep my mental health in check. Last year was quite rough, but this year I’d like to improve on some things like coping skills and just make myself a mentally healthier person for not just me, but my peers and family as well.”
We speak a lot about “hope,” but what does that really mean? Hope can be learned, taught, cultivated, shared, expressed, and received. Hope is an action word, although we probably equate it to well wishes. Merriam-Webster defines hope as, “to expect with confidence.” Hope is pivotal in mental health; it gives us direction and solutions to everyday situations. So, during unexpected events and situations, let’s expect with confidence—let’s hope—we can begin again, try again and appreciate where we are at this moment, but also where we hope to be in the future. Be kind to yourself. Be proud of where you’ve come from and lean into hope of where you’re going—even if there is a pile of snow waiting for you outside, and you were expecting 70 degrees and sunny.
“May your choices reflect your hope, not your fears.”-Nelson Mandela

Are we using our services to the fullest capacity?
In what areas should we be training our staff to effectively adapt?
How can we shift our programs and services to support sustainable recovery?

Just as recovery involves a process of change that involves clients working to improve their mental, physical, and relational wellness, the last few years have allowed OneEighty to take a critical look at all we do.

Thank you Women's Service Club of Wayne County!

On Friday, the offical Galentine's Day, the Women's Service Club of Wayne County donated 44 Galentine’s Bags for the women staying at our Emergency Shelter and Residential Treatment Facilities.

Galentine’s Day is all about celebrating the strength of women supporting women — and the Women's Service Club of Wayne County embodied that spirit perfectly.

Thank you for making our clients feel seen, valued, and uplifted!

OneEighty is proud to continue its longstanding partnership with Wooster Community Hospital as the hospital expands its Emergency Department with a thoughtful focus on behavioral health, substance use, and patient dignity. While the design and development of the new space were led by the hospital, the expansion reflects a shared understanding that emergency medical care works best when it is connected to mental health support, substance use treatment, and victim advocacy services. Alongside OneEighty and other community partners, WCH is building a stronger, more humane response for individuals and families across Wayne County and beyond.

In February, the doors will open to the newly expanded Emergency Department (ED) at Wooster Community Hospital (WCH). To most of the community, it will stand as a feat of modern architecture and medical capacity. But for the leadership at WCH, this project represents something much deeper: a three-y...
