Not all Halloween candy is created equal. Sticky and chewy treats like caramels and gummies can cling to teeth and increase the risk of cavities. Chocolate is a better choice because it rinses away more easily, especially with a good brush and rinse before bed. A few smart choices can help keep those Halloween smiles healthy and bright!

Children often lack discipline when it comes to brushing and flossing. A good extra step to ensure cleanliness is to use a mouthwash. An alcohol-free, flavored mouthwash can get kids more invested in their oral health. Be sure to supervise to ensure appropriate swishing without swallowing.

It's Pumpkin Spice Latte season! We see children with sugary lattes, frappuccinos, and similar drinks all the time. Unfortunately, a drink like a Starbucks Caramel Frappuccino can have as much as 19 packets of sugar! If your child does have one of these sugary concoctions, make it a rare and special treat…and don’t forget to brush two times every day for at least two minutes!

Baby Teeth FAQs: My baby was born with a tooth. Does it need to be pulled out?

It's rare, but some children already have a tooth when they're born, usually a bottom front tooth. This extra tooth will fall out when the baby teeth erupt. But sometimes these teeth need to be removed to avoid the risk of choking if they're loose.

Here are 3 tips to keep your child's lunches tooth-friendly!
(1) Focus on fibrous fruits and vegetables like apples, strawberries, and celery.
(2) Avoid juice and sugary sports drinks - Nuts or pretzels instead of potato chips.
(3) Add foods like cheese, non-fat yogurt, and calcium-rich milk. And whatever your child eats, be sure to brush for 2 minutes, 2 times every day!
