The Department of Urology at the University of Massachusetts and UMass Memorial Health Care was founded in 2013 to provide superlative patient care, foster an environment dedicated to improving the understanding of urologic disease through research and discovery, provide outstanding resident and medical student education and training, and facilitate extensive community and academic service. In a time of significant change in American health care, the Department of Urology is committed to developing treatment paradigms that maximize optimal outcomes while minimizing the invasiveness and cost of these therapies.

It's official — we've joined the Focal One family!

Focal One is the first and only robotic platform designed for focal ablation of prostate tissue using High Intensity Focused Ultrasound that is controlled by the urologist.

Here's an exciting update from Dr. Mitchell Sokoloff, Chair of the Department of Urology at UMass Memorial Medical Center:

"The UMass Chan Medical School/UMassMemorial Medical Center Department of Urology has successfully implemented Focal-One High Intensity Focal Ultrasound [HIFU] into our portfolio of prostate cancer therapies in addition to Single and Multiport and Retzius-sparing and transvesical Davinci Prostatectomies.

We provide access and outreach and the best in class urologic cancer surgical treatments to our surrounding underserved populations."

We're ecstatic about this addition and what this innovation means for our urology patients coming to UMass Memorial Medical Center for the absolute best care.
