Senior Center Additional funding for the Happy Senior Center comes from federal, state and private sources.

The Happy Senior Center is managed by and funded through the Executive Office of the City Manager, Elder Affairs Division. The Senior Center is a municipal building of the City of Worcester, and, as such, must comply with all the laws, rules and regulations of the City.

The key to healthy aging is staying active in mind and body. Our cutting-edge senior center provides countless opportunities to "take seniors higher," including:

* Health and wellness programs, screenings and services;
* Fitness and exercise classes;
* Nutritious hot lunch by reservation;
* Bobby M's Diner for drop-in eating;
* Support groups;
* Information and advocacy for individuals;
* Outreach to vulnerable and isolated seniors;
* Educational and cultural arts programs;
* Multi-cultural and intergenerational activities;
* Computer lab and instruction;
* Craft classes;
* Library;
* Billiards, bocce court and other games;
* Formal and informal recreation and socialization;
* Volunteer opportunities;
* Transportation;
* Full-service kitchen and multi-purpose lunchroom seating 200;
Office and meeting space rental for providers of services to seniors; and
* Landscaped grounds and community garden.

General information

Located at 128 Providence Street, Happy Senior Center is a bright welcoming place for ALL seniors, their families and caregivers, elder service providers, and the community at large. Located approximately one mile from City Hall, the Center is on two bus routes and has ample on-site, free parking. There is a strong emphasis on health and multi-cultural programs, computer classes and various other educational and recreational activities. Lunch is provided every day, as well as light fare at the diner. In addition to scheduled programs, elders enjoy a spacious library, computer lab practice, games, art exhibits, and landscaped grounds. They also come to the Senior Center for assistance with personal matters, obtaining information and support from the staff of Elder Affairs, as well as partnering organizations providing such services as veterans' assistance, health insurance counseling, food stamps, tax return preparation, legal assistance, and individual client advocacy. The Senior Scoop is a free monthly newsletter listing activities, menus and programs for the month. The Senior Center offers many of the activities listed above at low or no cost. The consistent growth and success of the Senior Center is a tribute to the needs it is meeting, as well as the creative partnerships developed with over 180 instructors and organizations that provide over 270 different programs. Leasing space to elder service providers generates income as well as enhances service delivery. Continual attention to diversity issues maintain a lively, multi-cultural atmosphere in which thousands of seniors take charge of their health and thrive.
